NCA has a presence in Nigeria to respond to the Humanitarian crisis in Northeast Nigeria and is scaling up an emergency response in Benue and Cross River States. NCA has its core competencies in Gender Based Violence and Water Sanitation and Hygiene.

We are recruiting to fill the vacant position below:

Job Title: Water Officer

Locations: Adikpo, Benue State and Ogoja, Cross River

Job Summary

  • The Water Officer will lead the field implementation of NCA water supply in the resettlement of Cameroonian refugees.

Responsibilities
The Water Officer will:

  • Carry out detailed WASH assessment in coordination with the WASH team with focus on water source development, treatment and distribution to Persons of Concern.
  • Prepare designs and BOQs for water supply constructions and installations for settlements
  • Supervise borehole drilling and rehabilitation by contractors in the field to ensure adequate quality control is maintained and project specifications and timelines are adhered to.
  • Implement with the support of water supervisors surface water supply treatment systems and distribution network for newly developed settlement sites.
  • Supervise construction of water collection points and storage platforms.
  • Oversee operation and maintenance of NCA water treatment unit, motorized borehole systems, pumps and generators to ensure adequate periodic maintenance is executed.
  • Organize and conduct training for Water User Committees in coordination with sanitation and hygiene team members.
  • Perform water quality analysis during water source development and implement water quality monitoring as part of the day to day water supply activities.
  • Build the capacity of water supervisors and plumbers in the implementation, operation and maintenance of water supply equipment and facilities.
  • Support the WASH Advisor with data collection in all water supply activities for proper monitoring of WASH program implementation.
  • Ensure water supply activities are carried out in coordination with sanitation and hygiene activities as well as other partners implementing services in the field.
  • Coordinate with logistics to facilitate procurement of necessary WASH items and materials.
  • Prepare periodic water supply activity report as requested by the WASH Advisor.
  • Carry out any other assignments as delegated by the WASH Advisor.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a degree in Water Resources and Enviromental Engineering, Hydrogeology or related fields.
  • One to two years experience in emergency or humanitarian settings.
  • Good assessment, analytical and planning skills
  • Good oral and writing report skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to work well in the field under difficult circumstances
  • Familiarity with disaster-affected population
  • Only Nigerian nationals should apply.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with mapping field equipment and software
  • Experience with emergency water supply systems

Job Title: Sanitation Officer

Location: Ogoja, Cross River

Job Purpose

  • The Sanitation officer will focus on designing, construction, and maintenance of sanitation and hygiene infrastructures while working in close cooperation with other WASH field staff to ensure that related hygiene and sanitation issues are coordinated.
  • S/he will be responsible for ensuring the implementation of the emergency WASH project by coordinating with other staffs on the field.

Main Duties

  • Monitoring the status of Sanitation and hygiene facilities and ensuring the timely repair and maintenance of the facilities by coordinating with other WASH staffs
  • Monitoring and supervising the quality of the construction of sanitation facilities implemented by contractors
  • Working closely with the WASH Advisor on developing weekly and monthly plans on the implementation of planned sanitation activity
  • Coordinating with the other WASH field staff to ensure that the various aspects of the WASH response are integrated.
  • Ensuring the inclusiveness of all safety/privacy/protection issues in all the WASH facilities constructed at the field level
  • Assisting the WASH Advisor on maintaining an accurate record and taking proper care of all field equipment and material stocks related to WASH
  • Assisting the WASH Advisor on making timely request and delivery of all logistic requirement for smooth implementation of sanitation work
  • Assist in any other related matters necessary for the execution of NCA Emergency WASH project activities as assigned by WASH Advisor.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of B.Sc in the Engineering fields and other related fields
  • At least one year of experience in humanitarian emergency response is an asset.
  • Must have good assessment, analytical, and planning skills.
  • Good oral and writing report skills.
  • Training/counterpart development skills.
  • Ability to work well in the field under difficult circumstances
  • Only Nigerian nationals should apply.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with the culture of conflict and/or disaster- affected populations,
  • Ability to develop respect from a wide range of people and strong ability to communicate effectively on sanitation and hygiene matters

Job Title: Water Supervisor

Locations: Adikpo, Benue and Ogoja, Cross River

Job Summary

  • The Water Supervisor will support the Water Officer in the implementation of WASH water supply component in the resettlement of refugees.

Responsibilities
The Water Supervisor will:

  • Ensure proper operation and maintenance of NCA water treatment unit (WTU) system.
  • Ensure water distribution to the settlement is done according to NCA water distribution plan
  • Execute setting up of storage platform for water collection points in settlements as advised by the water officer.
  • Implement piping/plumber job for the water supply distribution network designed by NCA for new settlements
  • Maintain proper record of water distribution and pump operation and maintenance.
  • Ensure the daily monitoring of FRC levels at water collection points in communities.
  • Coordinate distribution of water to communities according NCA water supply schedule for the settlements
  • Monitor and manage NCA water supply equipment, tools and materials in close coordination with logistics to ensure safety and good maintenance.
  • Manage provision of construction water for shelter activities in coordination with CCCM partners.
  • Carry out proper maintenance of NCA water distribution networks to ensure safe and timely distribution of water to community water collection points
  • Monitor and report any technical or organizational activity related risks and issues to the Water Officer
  • Manage water trucking vendors to allocate water supply to appropriate community water storage points for distribution.
  • Carry out any other assignments as delegated by the Water Officer.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 6 months experience in supporting emergency water supply activities.
  • Good knowledge of pump operation and maintenance system
  • Good oral and writing skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to work well in the field under difficult circumstances
  • Familiarity with disaster-affected population
  • Only Nigerian nationals should apply.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of surface water treatment systems
  • Experience with pumps and generator operations
  • Previous experience working with NCA is an additional resource
