We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: NFS Student Psychologist (Female)

Location: Yola, Adamawa
Department: New Foundation School (NFS)

Summary of Position

  • The NFS student psychologist role is that of a student confidant, advocate and supporter.
  • The psychologist will help students achieve psychological and emotional stability, as well as academic, personal, social and career success.
  • The incumbent will reside in the residence hall and be of service to the students during the day and when urgent instances occur.
  • The position works under the supervision of the AVP Foundation Programs and as needed conducts direct coordination with the AUN Clinic Director.

 

Position Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in Psychology or related discipline from a recognized university.
  • Four to six years post NYSC experience working as a counselling psychologist.
  • Experience of working in an academic environment is required.
  • Possess strong organizational and people skills.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Information and Communications Technology tools and e-resources.

Other Requirements, Abilities for the Position:

  • Ability to develop a work schedule, set goals, creates / implements actions plans and monitor progress towards goals.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Skill in typing/word processing and use of personal computer/software.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy confidentiality.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Assure discreet handling of all issues.
  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively with others.
  • Work under pressure.
  • Possess great organization skills and planning.

Detailed Duties and Responsibilities
Counseling:

  • Provide individual and small group counseling in a variety of settings.
  • Provide individual planning sessions to students in the areas of career awareness and social/emotional development in accordance with planned objectives of the University.
  • Interpret tests, student data and other assessment results appropriately in the counseling environment.
  • Provide individual counseling in response to student requests.
  • Provide diagnosis and treatment of mental, emotional and behavioural disorders.
  • Develop and maintain skills needed to utilize technology systems and participate in professional development activity

Coordinating:

  • Coordinate directly with NFS department heads in support of student academic, emotional, psychological, and social success.
  • Coordinate with AUN Health Center staff in support of student health issues.
  • Advocate for equal access to programs and services for students.
  • Plan and coordinate programs in support of student academic, emotional, psychological, and social development.
  • Coordinate with NFS department heads in the creation and development of curriculum that benefits the students’ academic and social experience.
  • Participate in strategic decision making and activities, which contribute to the effective operation of NFS.

Managing:

  • Plan, implement, maintain and evaluate the systems necessary for the support, maintenance and improvement of the NFS counseling program.
  • Articulate the NFS counseling program to students and staff.
  • Develop and maintain skills needed to utilize technology systems and participate in professional development activities.
  • Cooperate and collaborate with other professionals in enhancing the education of students.
