Job Title: Cleaner (Guest House)
Location: Borno
Program / Department Summary
- With the insurgency affecting North East Nigeria and displacing millions of people, Mercy Corps is expanding its humanitarian programming to support the conflict-affected population.
- As a result of the wide-scale needs, Mercy Corps is scaling-up food security, non-food items, nutrition, protection, livelihoods, and water sanitation hygiene (WASH) activities in Dikwa, Ngala, Damboa, Gwoza, Bama and Jere Local Government Areas in Borno State to address emergency
Job Description
- Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees. Daily
- Dust and all chairs and tables Daily
- Clean buildings by emptying trash, clean buildings by emptying trash, sweeping, and cleaning surfaces. Dust furniture and scrub surfaces clean.
- Vacuum all carpets and upholstery Daily
- Ensure all experts clothing are clean Daily
- Sweep and wash/mop any floor tiles, marble or hearths Daily
Security:
- Ensure compliance with security procedures and policies as determined by country leadership.
- Proactively ensure that team members operate in a secure environment and are aware of policies.
Organizational Learning:
- As part of our commitment to organizational learning and in support of our understanding that learning organizations are more effective, efficient and relevant to the communities they serve, we expect all team members to commit 5% of their time to learning activities that benefit Mercy Corps as well as themselves.
Accountability to Beneficiaries:
- Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our beneficiaries and to international standards guiding international relief and development work, while actively engaging beneficiary communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of our field projects.
- Team members are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and respect local laws, customs and MC’s policies, procedures, and values at all times and in all in-country venues.
Other Duties:
- Replace empty dispenser bottle on the water dispenser machine.
- Ensure that there is tea, coffee, milk and sugar available in the kitchen.
- Know how to use fire extinguisher and fire blanket and where they are located.
- Be available to help the Admin Officer/Assistant to organize parties and meetings.
- Assist the Administration Officer/Assistant to organize bonding activities and meetings and guests.
- Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.
- Clean water filters for portable water on a regular basis and change them whenever necessary.
- Ensure together with Admin officer/Assistant that all supplies related to cooking in the guest house are available on time i.e. matches, gas, cleaning items, etc.
- Keep an inventory of all kitchen utensils, plates, glasses, cutlery, cookware, etc. and report items missing or needing repairs to Admin Officer/Assistant.
Requirements
- Secondary School Certificate or equivalent
- Proven experience in office support
- One-year experience in a similar position
- Fluency in English is important
- Good interpersonal skills to establish an effective working relationship with all staff
- Willingness to work, timely resumption, ability to multi-task and ability to take initiative.
Knowledge and Experience
- Responsible and trustworthy, punctual, clean.
- A working knowledge of English is desired.
- Must have initiative and work largely unsupervised.
- Understands the importance of hygiene when cleaning the surroundings.
