Job Title: Communication Intern

- The Educating Nigerian Girls in New Enterprises (ENGINE) project – an innovative intervention funded by The UK Department for International Development’s Girls’ Education Challenge (GEC T) – aims to improve Literacy, Numeracy and Financial Literacy skills economic status of marginalized adolescent girls aged 17 – 23 in the Northern Nigerian states of Kano Kaduna, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the metropolis of Lagos, Nigeria.
General Position Summary
- The Communication Intern will provide support in all aspects of information management in his/her location.
- S/he will support the development of a communication strategy for the ENGINE 2 program including developing BCC/IEC materials, newsletters, footages, advocacy guides, and other messaging required for various phases of the project.
- The candidate will coordinate closely with the Communication Officer to plan and implement activities that ensure adherence to Mercy Corps’ and DFID standards, including the use/dissemination of project materials to different stakeholders.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Support with documentary productions by reviewing for sequence, spell check and ensuring that productions adhere to post-production script.
- Coordinate with media during high profile meetings.
- Develop success stories
- Collate content for the quarterly newsletter and develop a draft.
- Assist with development of other relevant publications.
- Provide support with photography.
- Assist with the design and layout of Behavioral Change Communication (BCC) materials such as stickers, t-shirts, banners and face caps.

Knowledge and Experience:
- B.Sc in Journalism or English Language, or Communications related field.
- At least 1 year experience working in communication-related programmes and producing communication materials – must have experience in creative writing and storytelling.
- Proficient in using editing software packages, such as Adobe creative suite (Photoshop, illustrator, In-Design) Publisher and Corel Draw.

Job Title: Program Assistant
Location: Damboa, Borno
Program / Department Summary
- Mercy Corps Nigeria’s humanitarian program aims to provide assistance to populations affected by the crisis in Northeast Nigeria.
- With funding from humanitarian donors including OFDA, FFP, EU, and ECHO the humanitarian programs engage in several interventions including but not limited to food assistance, non-food items (NFI), protection, livelihoods, cash transfers, WASH and capacity building of humanitarian response actors.
- Mercy Corps is scaling-up and expanding its humanitarian response in Northeast Nigeria to reach more beneficiaries with additional assistance in a wider geographic area.
General Position Summary
- The Cash Transfer Programming (CTP)/Cash for Work (CFW) Program Assistant will assist in the day to day implementation of all CTP/CFW program activities in the areas of intervention.

Program Department Summary
- With the insurgency affecting North East Nigeria and displacing millions of people, Mercy Corps is expanding its humanitarian programming to support the conflict-affected population in Borno. In response to the ongoing crisis, Mercy Corps is scaling-up food security, non-food items, nutrition, protection, livelihoods, and water sanitation hygiene (WASH) activities in Dikwa, Ngala, and Jere Local Government Areas in Borno State to address emergency needs.
General Position Summary
- Mercy Corps is looking for a strong deputy team leader to provide technical oversight and lead guidance to the implementation of Mercy Corps program in Borno state.

- The Educating Nigerian Girls in New Enterprises (ENGINE) Programme is an initiative to improve learning outcomes and the economic status of marginalized adolescent girls aged 16-19 in the Northern Nigerian states of Kano and Kaduna, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the metropolis of Lagos, Nigeria.
- ENGINE through funding from the UK Department for International Development’s Girls Education Challenge, the Coca-Cola Company and other stakeholders supported over 18,000 marginalized girls to reduce education and financial barriers in its first implementation phase.
- In its second phase, ENGINE 2 will facilitate transition of these girls into functional literacy, numeracy and scale up their business opportunities and linkages.
- ENGINE 2 will further increase girls’ and young women’s access to:
- Financial education and life skills;
- Peer to peer networks and mentoring; and
- Direct assets (materials and savings).
- Beneficiaries will be integrated into value chains as well as conduct other market-driven employment opportunities.

General Position Summary
- The Senior Officer Job Creation will support in leading the development and implementation of activities that transition girls in school or in informal education into economic activities including paid employment positions.
- These include into existing value chains of Nigerian-based companies and market driven employment and entrepreneurship activities; and apprenticeship/internship opportunities.
- This position requires being responsible for the overall oversight of all aspects of ENGINE 2 job creation programming, including assessment, planning, implementation, monitoring, capacity building of Mercy Corps staff, reporting, and ongoing evaluation.

- Mercy Corps plans to scale up and expand its humanitarian response in Northeast Nigeria to reach more beneficiaries with additional and varied assistance in a wider geographic area.
General Position Summary
- This position is responsible for counting commodities as and when commodities are received, dispatching commodities out of warehouse and making sure that the quantity mentioned in the receipt/dispatch waybills are accurately received and inventory properly reconciled against books.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Assist in ensuring that commodities are received / dispatched correctly by taking count at the time of off-loading and loading inside the store and on the truck.
- If there is any short/excess received the tally clerk will immediately bring to the attention of the warehouse officer/warehouse assistant.
- Ensure that stack cards are updated on daily basis and is tallied with the main store inventory ledger.
- Inspect commodities at all time to make sure that there are no damages. If damages are noticed, the tally clerk with bring it to the attention of Warehouse Assistant and Warehouse Officer
- Ensure that reconstitution of damages commodities are carried out on a timely basis and prepare loss and adjustment report.
- Ensure that stores are clean at all times and arrange for fumigation to secure commodities.
- Will be responsible for stores and commodities during the absence of the warehouse officer
- Represent Mercy Corps in a professional manner to suppliers, government officials, local and international community groups, suppliers, the UN and others as needed.

Damboa, BornoGeneral Position Summary
- The Mercy Corps Nutrition Officer is to ensure successful implementation of BSFP project activities in Damboa.
- Working in partnership with the Program Officer (Food distribution), he/she shall ensure BSFP project beneficiaries receive supplementary food items (monthly rations).
- He/she shall further support CMAM/IYCF trainings for staff/volunteer/mobilizer and community group trainings.
- Further, he/she shall ensure consistent MUAC screening and follow up i.e. referrals to existing OTPs/stabilization centers.
- The position is based in Damboa with at least 100% time to be spent in the field in ensuring delivery of project objectives.
Essential Job Functions
- Under supervision of Deputy Team Leader, the Nutrition Officer provides technical oversight of all aspects of BSFP program implementation and community sensitization around good nutrition, hygiene and health practices.
- Nutrition Officer will advise on nutritional messaging strategy to ensure the messages developed address the current knowledge and practices gaps, messages channels are in line with those most commonly used by the communities;
- S/he will deliver trainings to Mercy Corps program staff as well as community-based volunteers on community sensitization and messages delivery.
- Successful candidate will work with local actors to establish linkages with existing CMAM, OTP, SC centers, as well as other actors intervening in food security and nutrition area.
- Plan and conduct mass MUAC screening of the under 5s on a predefined basis
- Provide technical supervision to the nutrition sensitization component, whenever required
- Liaise with M&E team on monitoring the BSFP project impact
- Document project impact with support of M&E team through success stories, reports, maintaining tracking sheets, attendance sheets etc
- Attend coordination meetings, whenever delegated. Liaise with SMoH and local actors whenever required
- Ensure the daily/weekly/monthly reporting tasks of BSFP activities (screening-referral- distribution of food-challenges etc.)

Knowledge and Experience
- This position requires a minimum a Bachelor’s Degree in nutrition or other related field and minimum of 2 years of experience focused on nutrition/food security, including community mobilization, participatory planning and rural/community development; previous similar experience with International NGO will be an asset.
- Must have full knowledge on nutrition supplementary feeding distributions working with UN or INGO.
- Experienced in working in camp or host community settings.
- Experience working with multiple stakeholders to identify beneficiaries according to criteria required.
- Experience with running assessments, monitoring and evaluation and other learning efforts required.

Job Title: INGO Forum Field Support Manager

Program / Department Summary
- The Nigeria International NGO Forum (INGO Forum) is a civil society mechanism comprising of approximately 40 members (confirmed and prospective) and 4 observers active in the humanitarian and development fields in Nigeria.
- The purpose of the Forum is to provide an inclusive and consistent space for INGOs to develop and employ collective strategies and approaches to enhance the overall effectiveness and efficiency of humanitarian and development initiatives throughout Nigeria. The INGO Forum exists primarily to serve the needs of its members and to act in their interest for the betterment of serving beneficiaries.
- The main objectives include information sharing/ communication; coordination; policy development and advocacy; engagement with national civil society; and external representation of the INGO community.
- With 2 current staff (Coordinator and Support Manager) the INGO Forum plans to expand its reach with the goal of improving services to its members and increasing advocacy related to identified key priority issues. As of March 2017, the INGO Forum will be hosted by Mercy Corps in Nigeria’s capital city of Abuja.
General Position Summary
- The INGO Forum Field Support Manager will support the Forum and its member organizations in the North East. The INGO Forum Support Manager will be a motivated learner and a passionate activist for the improvement of the development/humanitarian situation in Nigeria and for the role of civil society in this context.
- As a support staff to the INGO Forum in Nigeria, s/he will assist in mobilising Forum Members, preparing meetings, taking minutes and organising trainings and events.
- This will be an opportunity for a committed worker to learn about coordination and the humanitarian sector in general, while developing research, analytical and organizational skills. S/he will serve as an information focal point linking Abuja coordination structure with up-to-date realities in the north –east through proactive engagement with identified personnel and information collection and sharing.
- In collaboration with humanitarian managers of member organizations based in the NE, s/he will support facilitation of action-oriented coordination discussions and identify opportunities for improvement of coordination, both within INGOs and on behalf of INGOs with other partners or stakeholders.
- As a main link between the INGO community and the Nigerian NGO community, s/he will actively engage with local NGOs to identify opportunities for collaboration and to build high-yielding partnership.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Program Management:
Objective 1
- Provide administrative, logistical and human resource support to INGO Forum:
- Support facilitation of INGO Forum Technical Working Groups in the field and follow up regularly.
- Engage with members of field based technical Working Groups to ensure actions taken.
- Organize logistics for trainings, workshops, events and other INGO Forum activities.
- Update and maintain contact lists and file sharing platforms.
- Filing and archiving of external information and documentation of Forum’s activities.
- Maintain INGO Forum calendars (internal and external).
- Draft agendas/take meeting minutes and circulate to identified recipient lists.
- Assist in development of TORs and contracts for events and consultancies.
- Provide assistance to newly arrived INGOs through registration and other start-up processes.
- Help organize and facilitate trainings and workshops, as necessary.
Objective 2
Ensure drafting and update of INGO Forum documents and correspondence:
- Work with Field coordinator to produce (Bi-) Weekly context – compilation of links to relevant media, reports, assessments, etc. from identified key sources.
- Follow up pending action points within INGO Forum members
- Support in reporting of Forum activities to donors and relevant stakeholders.
Objective 3
Support INGO Coordinator and other INGO Forum staff in communications, information management and coordination, as needed:
- Field information requests from external partners.
- Provide support to Humanitarian Managers’ Working Group.
- Engage with external partners on relevant topics.
- Work in collaboration with external partners (NNGOs, UN, Government, etc.) to plan/facilitate partnerships.
- Collection, organization and dissemination of information from Members of the Forum on humanitarian/development issues.
- Research on key principles, standards and best practices (protection, WASH, Food security, health, shelter, education, etc.).
- Help to forge links between international and local NGOs and networks.
- Potential visits to support Forum Members in Adamawa and Yobe.
Finance & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with donor and Mercy Corps regulations
- Draft or review scope of work to hire and manage technical consultants, including review for technical efficacy and contract budget, as required.
Security:
- Ensure compliance with security procedures and policies as determined by country leadership.
- Proactively ensure that team members operate in a secure environment and are aware of policies.
Organizational Learning:
- As part of our commitment to organizational learning and in support of our understanding that learning organizations are more effective, efficient and relevant to the communities they serve, we expect all team members to commit 5% of their time to learning activities that benefit Mercy Corps as well as themselves.

Knowledge and Experience
- Advanced university degree in Law, Political Science, International Relations, Journalism, Social Sciences, International Development or related technical field (minimum master degree).
- Master ’s degree in law, political science, international relations, journalism, social sciences, international development or related technical field.
- Written and spoken fluency in English.
- Strong data analytical and interpretation skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of the international humanitarian/development system and the mandates of the actors involved.
- Willingness to learn and interest in humanitarian practice.
- Commitment to international humanitarian standards and principles.
- Excellent writing, editing and analytical skills and ability to formulate well-targeted strategic documents.
