Nigeria Air Force (NAF) – Over 37,000 applicants have besieged the Nigerian Air Force Base Kaduna, the Kaduna venue of the 2017 recruitment exercise with the hope of securing a slot in the Service.
The applicants have been struggling since the screening started on the 23rd of last month for just 2,500 openings nationwide; and there are other recruitment centres around the country.
The Kaduna venue yesterday was a sight to behold as the young applicants milled around, anxious to make a success of their aspiration to get into the Service. The Chief of Standards and Evaluation, Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Air Vice Marshal Salau Bala-Ribah who visited the venue for an evaluation, cautioned officers and men of the Service conducting the 2017 recruitment exercise nationwide against collecting bribe from applicants, saying anyone found wanting would be prosecuted as the entire recruitment exercise was based on merit.
“The Chief of the Air Staff wants transparency in whatever we are doing because we have had complaints in the past and that is why we are putting trust in place to ensure that such complaints will not come up again,” he said.
Commenting on some recruits from Katsina state whose certificates were seized, he said, “We tried to get to the liaison offices of various states to send their representatives to come and screen their candidate if they really are from Katsina state because that is the only way we can authenticate their indigeneship.”
