The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) is an independent body, established by the Electric Power Sector Reform Act of 2005 to undertake technical and economic regulation of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry. The Commission is to, among others license operators, determine operating codes and standards, establish customer rights and obligations and set cost reflective industry tariffs. The Commission has its head quarters in Abuja.

Job Title: Assistant Manager – Accounts

Job Description

  • Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and compliance to reporting and procedural standards.
  • Compute taxes owed and prepare tax returns, ensuring compliance with payment, reporting and other tax requirements. Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations, to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice.
  • Report to management regarding the finances of
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze budgets, prepare periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs.
  • Review and recommend amendment to forms and manuals for accounting and procedures.
  • Advise management about issues such as resource utilization, tax strategies, and the assumptions underlying budget forecast
  • Prepare Bank Reconciliation statement
  • Preparation of Periodic budget performance & Variance analysis reports
  • Effective management of accounts functions (vote book, Loans & advances etc) Preparation of Monthly/Quarterly Management Account
  • Relates with and provides internal support to all External Auditors
  • Represent the organisation as a liaison with the finance & Accounts unit of other government agencies
  • Maintain and update fixed asset register as the need arise
  • Assist in the preparation/review of draft Management Accounts
  • Developing initiatives and policies that may improve financial growth
  • Any other work as may be assigned from time to time by Head Finance & Account.

Requirements
Qualifications/Skills:

  • First Degree – Minimum of Second Class upper in Accounting or related fields (Possession of ICAN, ACCA, ANAN is Mandatory)
  • Minimum years of experience: Minimum of 6 years
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) & Accounting SoftwareSolution
  • Ability to multi task and effective time management.
  • Ability to work with teams
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Set priorities and see projects through to completion.
