Executive Director – WAFU B at the Confederation of African Football (CAF)

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) was founded in 1957 by four nations: Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia and South Africa. As the administrative body of the region, CAF manages competitions, offers technical and administrative training courses while actively fostering the promotion and practice of football. The Confederation organizes championships such as the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN or AFCON), the most popular competition. It maintains very close links with FIFA in coordinating tournaments for different events such as the World Cup, Youth and Women competitions and the Olympic Games Football Tournaments.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Executive Director – WAFU B

Location: Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire

Responsibilities
CAF/Zonal Union Administration:

  • Support CAF HQ in obtaining supporting documents from its Member Associations and communicate with the different MAs and Zonal Unions to receive the documents necessary for the payment of the annual subvention.
  • Report to the Director of Member Associations
  • Provide CAF with a bi-monthly update of the Zonal Union’s activities.
  • Be an active member in the Task Force – contribute with solution proposals.
  • Provide CAF with updates on the scheduled meetings and activities in the Zonal Union including but not limited to general assemblies, executive committee meetings, and any other activities.
  • Establish, after consultation with the Zonal Union’s President, the agenda of the meetings of the General Assembly, the meetings of the Executive Board and the meetings of the ad hoc committees, draw up their respective minutes in due time and share them with CAF.
  • Ensure the administration of the Zonal Union is managed in conformity with CAF standards and global financial governance best practices.
  • Provide status updates to the Head of Zonal Union Affairs and follow up on any request he/she might have.
  • Legally represent the Zonal Union, if the Zonal Union’s President or the Executive Board delegates to him the specific powers to do so.
  • Manage financial, material, and human resources of the Zonal Union in accordance with CAF standards and establish proper policies and procedures in compliance with the laws of the country.
  • Responsible for the management of the financial affairs and cash flow of the Zonal Union as well as the treasury of the Zonal Union’s accounts including being responsible for archiving all the supporting documents of expenses and receipts.
  • Prepare financial reports and the budget before submitting them to the Executive Committee for presentation to the General Assembly and to CAF.
  • Responsible for the recruitment and dismissal of staff after the approval of the President.

Zonal Relations Management:

  • Assist / coordinate / implement activities that contribute to Football Development in the Zonal Unions (such as Workshops, Courses etc.) in coordination with CAF HQ.
  • Ensure that the organized activities such as competitions, courses and workshops are all held in accordance with CAF’s standards and follow CAF’s regulations.
  • Act as a focal point and liaise between the CAF HQ, and Member Associations of the Zonal Unions.
  • Attend Members elective Congresses if requested by CAF HQ.
  • Ensure FIFA and CAF regulations are respected by the different Member Associations of the Zonal Union and report any issues to CAF HQ.
  • Provide strategic guidance to Member Associations of the Zonal Union and recommendation to CAF HQ for development support.
  • Oversee correspondence and public relations of the Zonal Union under the guidance of its President.

Competitions:

  • Organize at least four Zonal Union competitions annually. Where needed consult CAF to ensure this requirement is met.
  • Organize at least one women’s Competition and two youth Competitions annually.
  • Prepare competition budget for all the Zonal Union’s Competitions.
  • Draft the Zonal Union’s competitions calendar in coordination with CAF and communicate the EXCO approved competitions calendar to CAF.
  • Provide support to CAF in the elaboration of Zonal competition regulations and ensure they are being adhered to once they are approved.
  • Provide recommendations for the development of CAF and Zonal Union competitions and provide technical support when needed.
  • Secure sponsors and generate revenues for the Zonal Union competitions.

Requirements (Profile)

  • Higher Education such as (Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Sports Management or equivalent)
  • Fluency in English and French (written and spoken); fluency in another official CAF language is an asset.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office as well as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).
  • Extensive experience as a manager or director in the sports field, preferably football.
  • Experience in Event Coordination, Management, and budgeting.
  • Willing to relocate to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
  • Willing to travel within the respective Zone.
