The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) is the government agency with the mandate to coordinate the surveillance, detection and response to infectious disease outbreaks. Over the last three years, NCDC has deployed a new tool for disease surveillance. The Surveillance, Outbreak Response Management and Analysis System (SORMAS) is a system jointly developed between the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) to improve disease surveillance as well as detection and management of outbreaks and thus strengthen the public health service in Nigeria.

Job Summary
- We are recruiting an IT Assistant to join the Global Fund- COVID-19 Response Mechanism (C19RM) funded IPC project. The successful candidate will support the National Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Program domiciled within the Centre for Infection Control And Patient Safety (CICaPS), office at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, in providing IT solutions as well as developing and managing data systems for IPC projects.
- S(he) will ensure the efficiency, security, and accessibility of IT systems, including managing technology infrastructure and making strategic technology decisions.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for various administrative tasks to support project activities and contribute to their overall success.
Main Activities and Responsibilities
Knowledge Generation:
- Conduct assessments of the existing IT infrastructure, applications, and processes. Evaluate existing systems and recommend solutions that align with the project’s objectives and budget.
- Lead efforts to create and implement an electronic national IPC data platform for data entry, storage, management, analysis, and visualization (in collaboration with the M&E Officers and Healthcare-Associated Infection Surveillance Consultant).
- Collaborate with the team to generate data reports and analyze project data.
- Develop and maintain data dashboards for visualization and monitoring.
- Provide ongoing technical support, troubleshooting, and issue resolution as needed.
- Train staff on the use of new technologies and systems and provide clear documentation for reference.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of data systems, configurations, and procedures.
- Create and update user manuals and guidelines as needed.

- Participate and support the Center’s broader mission objectives.

- To demonstrate good external relationship with all stakeholders

Essential Criteria
- Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field from an accredited/recognized university with two years [PB1] of relevant experience
- Experience designing and developing electronic data capture systems.
- Proven experience in managing data systems.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and training abilities.
- Proficiency in database management systems, network administration, and cloud technologies
- Good command of Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.’
Desirable Criteria:
- Familiarity with database development, cloud computing and other application packages will be an advantage
