Albarka Health Spring Foundation (AHSF) is a non-governmental organization, fully registered with the Nigerian government through the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC/IT NO: 91613). Existing since October 2016, AHSF focuses on improving the quality of life of vulnerable populations across communities in Nigeria. AHSF operates both in emergency and developmental context and have its program principally rooted in identifying gaps that affects population or increases vulnerability of population and bridging those gaps through resource base planning and implementation. AHSF has experience working with various partners in the Northeast and Northwest of Nigeria implementing Nutrition, WASH, GBV, Food Security, Livelihood, Protection, and Health.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Security and Safety Assistant
Location: Tangaza, Rabah, and Illela LGAs, Sokoto

Project Implementation and Justification
- Northwest Nigeria is facing a food insecurity and malnutrition situation which continues to get worse because of banditry and conflicts between herders and farmers on one hand; and on the other hand, due to a volatile economic situation defined by inflation and devaluation of the Naira among others. The result of the recently concluded March 2024 Cadre Harmonise analysis indicates that 29 percent (6,285,032 individuals) of the estimated population in the three northwestern states are in CH phases 3-4; of which about 8 percent are in Sokoto. Since the year 2020, WFP had implemented several activities in response to the food and nutrition insecurity ravaging the NW of Nigeria.
- WFP plans to distribute 888MT of the wheat grain received from Ukraine to assist 39,084 of the vulnerable affected population in northwest Nigeria covering Sokoto for three months starting from the onset of the 2024 lean season, the month of July. This is part of an integrated approach that the WFP initiated to combine with other WFP ongoing/planned interventions to make a maximum impact on the food needs, well-being, and resilience of the affected population.
Job Summary
- Assists in the development and implementation of AHSF safety risk management systems, including policies, plans and procedures in areas of operation. Provide administrative assistance and technical support and ensure that programs and projects activities are implemented in a secure, safe and effective manner
Primary Responsibilities
- Support the program teams to ensure that WFP project activities are implemented in a secure, safe and effective manner, primarily through the procurement of safety items.
- Implement improvements to the Minimum Operating Safety Standards (MOSS) under the direction of technical specialists.
- Attend regular briefings and context updates.
- Monitor staff movements and report irregularities to the appropriate focal point.
- Ensure that appropriate access controls are in place for all AHSF facilities.
- Proofread translated Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Contingency Plans (CP), threat assessments, and other documents to ensure translations have been completed to the required standard.
- Update security phone trees and maintain staff contact information.
- Assist in implementing AHSF safety policies, protocols, and procedures under technical supervision.
- Oversea the procurement / issuing of safety and protective equipment under technical instruction.
- Track the location of AHSF safety assets including, but not limited to, PPE, communications equipment, first aid kits, and so on.
- Maintain relevant safety documentation, data and records for the areas of concern under technical guidance.
- Any other duties related to the nature of the job as directed by the supervisor.
Responsibilities following training period:
- Assists in the implementation of AHSF safety risk management systems (SRMS) under technical supervision.
- Communicate Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Contingency Plans (CP), threat assessments, and other safety policies to staff whose first language is not English with the support of technical specialists.
- Assess potential impacts of the evolving context on AHSFs programmatic activities.
- Establish a network of local contacts to develop a nuanced understanding of the context.
- Support in site safety assessments and identify new office spaces, guesthouses, warehouses, and other sites as required. This can include regular safety audits, such as checking fire extinguishers, safe room supplies, first aid kits, emergency communication equipment, and physical security elements (MOSS), and so on.
- Support in the completion of Safety Risk Assessments (SRAs).
- Deliver Pre/Post Arrival Briefs to incoming staff.
- Support incident response – particularly IMT and CMT.
- Support in the management of the AHSF safety information portal (SharePoint) ensuring that it is up to date, relevant and accessible to a range of users.
- Any other duties related to the nature of the job as directed by the supervisor.
