Job Title: Head, Strategy and Business Development

Location: Lagos

Job Summary

  • Development and communication of the company’s business
    strategy, associated 5-year strategic plan & annual supporting
    operational plan
  • Develop and/or promote key functional/ cross-functional strategies across the business
  • Lead the syndication and stakeholder management for technology strategy development
  • Develop in-house available technical analysis capabilities
  • Develop new business opportunities with a focus on technology / technical modelling/ analysis and business case development
  • Lead technical analysis of Strategy & Business Development projects / opportunities

Principal Functions
Corporate Strategy Development:

  • Develop and disseminate the company’s 5-year business plan; co-ordinate and refresh the corporate strategy annually
  • Drive, monitor and assess the implementation and effectiveness
    of the 5 year strategy and supporting operational plan in light of
    competitive performance and context
  • Track and record progress driving towards objectives
  • Communicate the company’s strategic direction and drive objectives to ensure understanding of roles and responsibilities

Functional Strategy:

  • Lead development of cross-functional strategies that serve as key components of the overall corporate technical strategy
  • Develop broad guidelines into specific operational plans and programs and drive implementation
  • Participate in negotiations for potential acquisitions, partnerships or divestments

Strategic initiatives:

  • Develop technical / analytical frameworks and assess existing and new business opportunities (partner, acquire, build, divest)
  • Enhance and drive technical analysis as above where applicable
  • Promote internal evolution of technology strategy where applicable
  • Develop, analyze and communicate business cases that support the
    assessment and underlying valuation of potential opportunities to
    enhance management decision making

Market and Competitive analysis:

  • Assess and monitor industry trends, competitors’ activities and
    new technological developments highlighting impact of the company’s
    strategy and operations
  • Drive the prioritization and reaction to new technology developments

Others:

  • Maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Manage external consultants as required
  • Perform other roles/tasks as required by the Director, Strategy and Business Development

Experience, Skills & Competencies

  • Nine (9) to Twelve (12) years relevant work experience with at least three (3) years at managerial level.
  • Combinations of business insight experience coupled with telecoms expertise
  • Experience in investment banking or management consulting an advantage
  • Technical understanding of network planning, design and implementation
  • Articulation of commercial impact of network technology changes
  • Network costing and budgeting
  • Project management and implementation
  • Research analysis & evaluation techniques
  • Industry/technical knowledge
  • Negotiation skills
  • Leadership & influencing skills
  • Presentation & facilitation skills
  • Strategy formulation, evaluation and implementation
  • Business case development

Educational Requirements

  • First Degree in Engineering; telecommunications related discipline preferred
  • Post-graduate degree in Business, Management, Finance or technology preferably an MBA
