Mercy Corps has been working in Nigeria since 2012. With a team of over 85 staff, our country program currently focus on conflict mitigation, markets and economic development, adolescent girls’ education, humanitarian response and financial resilience.

Mercy Corps is a sub-grantee for the implementation of the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) led and USAID funded Feed the Future Nigeria livelihoods project. In this five- year project (end June 2018) Mercy Corps helps vulnerable households to improve their incomes by building their business and employment skills to effectively connect to market opportunities. The project, through work with civil society partners, builds the capacities of households in entrepreneurship so that they can engage in viable business and income generating activities.

We invites sealed bids from eligible companies/individuals for the below named tender:

Job Title: Documentary Consultant for Gender Programmes

Location: Abuja, Nigeria

Purpose of Consultancy

  • All three projects require audio-visual documentation of program outcome and impact on the beneficiaries, gatekeepers and other stakeholders.
  • The consultant is expected to produce short (maximum 20 minutes) narrated and subtitled documentaries/short films as required for each project.

Illustrative List of Tasks to be Performed
The consultant will be required to undertake the following tasks:

  • Draft a brief synopsis and script setting out the documentary/short film angle and storyline as well as the purpose of the documentary.
  • Share and discuss draft script with the documentary vendor before sharing with Director Gender programs for approval.
  • Work with project staff to identify the key stakeholders to be featured in the documentary, book appointments and prep them before the production.
  • Collate all necessary logos and information that will be used in the documentaries.
  • Include graphics, subtitles and other material relevant to the documentaries or short films.
  • Develop a plan and itinerary to conduct interviews with beneficiaries, gatekeepers and other stakeholders and film clips of learning space activities, community, schools and other location activities.
  • Travel to locations to support the documentary vendor and conduct interviews and ensure that the documentary vendor films any other relevant clips and images based on the approved synopsis/script.
  • Ensure that all the people to be interviewed understand and sign the consent forms.
  • Provide rough drafts of documentaries/short films to project focal persons for review and feedback.
  • Work with vendor to edit, translate (subtitle) and make other necessary changes to the documentaries/short films taking into account the feedback and other comments.
  • Deliver high-quality final products according to specifications:
    • Master copy of documentaries/short films in HD format. Ensure that DVDs are branded.
    • Final product of documentaries/short films on 4 branded DVDs.
  • Ensure that all footages, soft copies and hard copies are submitted to project focal persons upon completion of each documentary/short film.
  • All works must be submitted on agreed upon dates.

  • High professionalism and ability to work independently as well as contribute his/her own ideas for the betterment of the project.

Language:

  • As determined by Mercy Corps, the working language of this tender is English. Other languages will not be accepted.

Source of Financing:

  • The program and project are financed by NIKE.
  • The Investor has considered Mercy Corps for contracting purposes.

Qualifying Conditions
The following competencies, experiences and skills are qualifying conditions/criteria for the tender and must be demonstrated in the proposals submitted:
The consultant should have the following competencies:

  • Demonstrate integrity and ethical standards;
  • Creativity and initiative;
  • Ability to present complex issues in simple and clear manner;
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver high quality results on time;
  • High professionalism and ability to work independently as well as contribute his/her own ideas for the betterment of the project.
  • Skills and Experience

The selected consultant must:

  • Have at least 5 years of working experience directing and producing high quality human angle documentaries/short films.
  • Proficient in video editing software.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of graphical video design.
  • Have a working knowledge of HD formats.
  • Have experience working with development agencies on similar projects.
  • Have ability to transcribe a script to an audio-visual document.

Additional conditions:

  • If a Media Company, it must be a registered company with evidence of registrations attached.
  • Evidence of tax payment and/or tax registration documents with TIN indicated attached for both companies and individuals.
