JOB TITLE:   Program Coordinator, Nigeria

SUMMARY
The Program Coordinator provides project and/or program management support, logistics, and conflict/political analysis in support of USIP’s programming in Nigeria. This position is based in Abuja, Nigeria and reports to the DC-based Program Officer for Nigeria.
This is a one-year position and availability is contingent upon funding.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works in close coordination with Washington, DC staff and local partner organization, to support USIP’s program in Nigeria, including implementing day-to-day operations of the program, coordinating logistics, and facilitating meetings and interaction with northern state governors and a senior working group of Nigerian civic leaders;
  • In close coordination with Washington, DC staff and local partner organization, maintains working relationships with the governors, civic leaders, and other stakeholders.
  • Represents USIP in meetings in Nigeria with relevant stakeholders, to include civil society, Nigerian government, US Embassy, and USAID;
  • Provides timely bi-weekly submission of program materials, including regular program monitoring reports and reporting inputs that evaluate political developments in Nigeria, measures USIP’s program impact, and collects results and high-quality data;
  • Conducts and submits regular conflict and political analysis on Nigeria;
  • Liaises regularly with USIP DC-based team to ensure well-timed support for program activities, and logistics;
  • In coordination with USIP DC-based team, manages the reconciliation of program expenses to ensure adherence to USIP financial rules and regulations;
  • Maintains coordination with USIP staff in Nigeria working on other projects, such as the Justice and Security Dialogue (JSD) program.
  • Other duties as determined.
  • Well organized, self-motivated, and able to conceptualize, and implement projects in fast-paced environments;
  • Good understanding of Nigerian political, economic and social dynamics and of how to operate effectively and efficiently in Nigeria;
  • Proven experience working and conducting programming in Nigeria
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member
  • Poise, flexibility, discretion, and mature judgment to handle and respond appropriately and professionally in a high-pressure atmosphere;
  • Must be organized, versatile and possess strong presentation skills
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills.
  • Working knowledge of PC-based word processing and spreadsheet applications; experience with Microsoft Apps (outlook, Calendar, One Drive, etc.) strongly desired.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.A. in international affairs, conflict resolution, political science, African studies, or related area; Masters or Law degree preferred;
  • Minimum 5-7 years relevant full-time staff level work experience required, including work in active and recently active conflict zones and experience in community engagement, field research, and project management.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic;
  • Experience working across Nigeria and ability to travel within the country as needed;
  • English language fluency mandatory;
  • Relevant foreign language fluency, preferably Hausa or Fulani, is highly desirable.

Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
