Job Title: Vice-Chancellor
Location: Imo
Preamble
- The Imo State University Council has declared a vacancy in the post of Vic-Chancellor of the University, in strict adherence with the prescriptions of the Imo State University Law No.5 of 2004.
Responsibilities
The Vice-Chancellor shall serve as the Chief Executive and Chief Academic Officer of the University; Chairman of the University Senate and Congregation, and Member of the University Council. In these capacities, the Vice-Chancellor shall he expected to:
- Be competent at all times to advise the University Council on au matters relating to administrative policy and financial management of the University;
- Be generally responsible to the Council for maintaining peace, law, and order on the campus;
- Be responsible for maintaining discipline in the University and
- Regulate the admission of students subject to the guidelines and procedure approved by the University Senate.
Qualities and Qualifications
The candidate for the post of Vice-Chancellor must possess the following qualities and qualifications:
- Must be a University Professor and must have a minimum of twenty (20) years of academic or cognate experience out of which not less than ten (10) years must he at the rank of a full Professor;
- Must not be more than sixty-five (65) years at the time of the appointment;
- Must be of very high academic standing in his/her discipline such as to command respect nationally and internationally;
- Must be an accomplished administration and manager of human and material resources at a highly sufficient level to the affair of the University;
- Must have the experience of leading strategic development and innovations;
- Must be a person with proven competent leadership qualities who would command the respect and loyalty of staff and students of the University provide the necessary bridges between various segments of the University Community;
- Must be of strong and impeccable character with a high level of integrity;
- Must have the ability to command the respect of the academic community Slid foster inter-personal relationships and team work;
- Must possess a thorough understanding of the Mission and Mandate of a Nigerian University, especially those of the Imo State University and must possess the developmental and managerial skills to pilot Imo State University meaningfully in a developing society with rapidly changing needs and values;
- Must be morally sound and enjoy robust physical and mental health.
- Experience as a Deputy Vice-Chancellor in a Nigerian University is an added advantage
Terms and Conditions of Service
- The successful candidate will hold the post of Vice-Chancellor for a single term of 5 (five) years only.
- The remuneration and other conditions of service are as applicable to the post of Vice-Chancellor in Nigerian Universities and as may be determined from time to time by the University Council.

- Names and Addresses of three Referees (one of whom must, where appropriate, be the head of the establishment where the applicant currently works).
Each application should be accompanied by thirty (30) copies of a statement of the candidate’s vision for the University in the next five (5) years, in not more than 1000 words and not less than 100 words.
In the case of candidate(s) identified and nominated by the Search Team, each application must be accompanied by a letter of consent duly signed by the candidate.
