Job Title: FAS-PGE Assistant
Location: Abuja
Main Responsibilities
Main Responsibilities
- Supports in developing the strategy for the FAS-PGE file in Nigeria, and in organizing the different FAS-PGE activities.
- Assists in the organisation of the FAS-PGE training sessions on IHL-IHRL principles and the International Standards and Best Practices for policing
- Supports the FAS-PGE Delegate in the organisation of training of trainers seminars (thematic discussion and context adaptation, logistic coordination, administrative references) actively participating in the elaboration of didactic material, dissemination tools, the conduction of the trainings and their curriculum’s humanitarian component.
- Contributes to the networking effort of the FAS-PGE Delegate, maintaining contacts with the authorities and the FAS-PGE interlocutors, promoting the ICRC mandate and activities.
- Contributes to the context analysis of Nigeria, closely monitoring the operational environment, and the internal movements and challenges of the LE agencies, advising the FAS-PGE Delegate on the implementing strategy of the different PGE activities. He reports on the mentioned context analysis.
- Supports in maintaining the network of interlocutors at the Police HQ, Ministry of Police Affairs and in the Police Staff College and Mobile Police College
- Support the Nigerian Red Cross (NRCS) dissemination sessions given to the Police
- Update and develop necessary dissemination material (including PowerPoint presentations).
- Monitors availability of dissemination materials and advice on ordering relevant materials in good time.
- Keep records of expenditures of dissemination activities, missions and events with the Armed Forces and Police.
Required Qualifications
- University degree in IHL, IHRL, Law, Communication or any relevant fields. Military or Police Academy with proved studies of IHRL-IHL is equally accepted
- At least 5 years of experience in a related field
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent capacity to analyse the political and social environment
- Teamwork skills and availability to work in difficult environmental conditions
- Solid and clear writing skills
- Previous experience in Law Enforcement in a command position is a strong asset
- Fluent in written and spoken English

Job Title: Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Program Assistant

- Assist in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) needs assessments.
- Actively participate in regular MHPSS team meetings and training. Draft the agenda, gather and/or distribute relevant documents in advance and complete minutes of meetings.
- Support the Mental Health Delegate and/or Technical MHPSS FO’s to deliver training sessions
- Collect and collate contributions from Technical MHPSS FO’s and compile Monthly Statistical Reports and Quarterly Technical Reports in a timely fashion as required to fulfil the reporting requirements of the program
- Assist the Mental Health Delegate to ensure that appropriate tools to monitor the program effectiveness, relevance and appropriateness are in place
- Maintain a continuous awareness of the evolution of the situation and its impact on program implementation, security considerations and MHPSS needs, communicating these with the sub delegation and the Mental Health Delegate as appropriate
- Collaborate with the NRCS to recruit and coordinate volunteers to implement MHPSS activities as appropriate.
- Co-ordinate and communicate with other units within the delegation including as well as other staff members within the health dept.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Medicine or Psychology.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar field.
- Extensive experience in community based program design in MHPSS an asset.
- Experience delivering, monitoring and evaluating programs.
- Experience working with iNGOs, NGOs or international Medical Organisation an asset.
- Very good skills in Microsoft office.
- Post graduate degree in Clinical Psychology or Public Health an asset.

- In consultation with the MHPSS Delegate, coordinate the implementation of all field activities as defined in the MHPSS project document.
- Lead the volunteer team in a collaborative manner to identify the mental health and psychosocial needs of hospitalized patients, identifying relevant topics for problem solving, therapeutic and psychoeducational individual sessions, groups and sensitization activities as appropriate, with the support of the MHPSS Delegate.
- Maintain client files in accordance with international standards. Ensure all client information is kept confidential and clinical records and are kept securely and written in a respectful manner
- Identify key community actors and/or health staff who will receive intensive & ongoing training, coaching and supervision in mental health and psychological support, with the support the MHPSS delegate.
- Maintain a continuous awareness of the evolution of the situation and the impact on programme implementation, security considerations and MHPSS needs, communicating these with the sub delegation and the MHPSS Delegate as appropriate.
- Collaborate with the NRCS to coordinate volunteers to implement MHPSS activities as appropriate, supported by the MHPSS Programme Assistant
- Identify and facilitate referral pathways for clients in need of specialist psychological, mental health, medical and other humanitarian needs.
Required Qualifications
- University degree in Psychology.
- Experience working with the psychological effects of war political violence or other traumatic events highly desirable.
- Experience working in a hospital environment and/or with multidisciplinary health staff an asset.
- Group facilitation skills, training and supervision experience.
