Position Overview

  • Provides Strategic and operational thought leadership to build Technical Capability (Supply Chain, Supplier Management, QSE, Packaging, etc.), QSE programs and systems in the Business Unit and Bottling organization by designing, developing and executing Quality Safety Environment programs and processes, resource allocation to drive profitable growth while maintaining robust governance, and protecting our brands, people & reputation.
  • This will include supporting the technical franchise team in Nigeria and WIMA to achieve the three widely important priorities and goals:
    • Achieve consistent and sustainable compliance to company QSE requirement
    • Ensure capable processes are producing our brands
    • Ensure our people have the required QSE Capabilities
  • Facilitates delivery of programs in other technical areas such as SRA, Supply Chain, Supplier Management, Productivity, Packaging etc.
  • Build systems and processes by using all available QSE data, metrics performance, process assessment, risk evaluation etc., to track systems performance for all QSE activities, reduce/remove risk out of the system and achieve and exceed the BU goals.
  • Provide leadership in continuously tracking and updating Business Unit QSE teams on KORE and ISO developments and the implementation
  • This role has been identified as strategically important to build capability and systems within the BU and bottling system to jump start step change improvement towards Food Safety, Quality, Occupational Health & Safety and Environment.

Key Duties/Responsibilities
Strategy:

  • Provide thought leadership to bottling operations on optimal organizational structure, determine skills required and make necessary adjustments to drive capability agenda.
  • Develop the Technical Capability Business Plans to build operational capability (knowledge, skills, tools and processes) that will positively impact Quality, Safety, Environment, Supply Chain efficiency and leverage system competitiveness.
  • Drive alignment between BU and Annual Bottler Business Plans around Capability development

Capability Development:

  • Lead capability assessments with the bottler, identify gaps and make recommendations on relevant interventions.
  • In consultation with the BU and Bottler Technical Leadership, design and develop and deliver capability programs related to Supply Chain, Quality, Environment, Safety, Food Safety e.g. KORE, OHSAS 18000, FSSC Training, ISO 9000, ISO 14000 etc.
  • Drive programs and process to achieve bottler certification within TCCC timelines – e.g. ISO and FSSC etc.
  • Develop champions within bottling system to ensure they are equipped to conduct the necessary programs within their operation.
  • Determine training needs, develop tools and communication aids, or provide training to Company, Supplier and bottler personnel to ensure that the appropriate level of knowledge is transferred to the field to assist with the effective implementation of each quality initiative.

Capability Deployment:

  • Conduct training and development of programs in support of business needs to improve capability in the bottling system towards QSE.
  • Working with Technical Central (Supply Chain, SRA, Technical Operations etc.) to facilitate deployment of key training programs to the Bottling System.
  • Lead the deployment of global/local programs in BU and Bottling Technical teams e.g. Supply Chain Excellence (SCMX), Basic Production Management (BPM), QSE Professional Excellence Program (QSEPX), Basic Quality, Safety & Environment (BeQSE) Programs.
  • Provide Quality, Safety, Environment support to Suppliers to drive compliance to KORE and International Certification e.g. Global Food Safety Initiative (GSFI), ISO, SGP etc.
  • Provide the framework, programs and tools for ensuring the quality and integrity of products through continuously monitoring of changes in KORE, refining it and providing structured feedback to Corporate. Provide systems leadership in BU and Bottler Technical Teams on implementation of KORE changes.
  • Provide risk assessments for health and safety or beverage related products, ingredients, packaging, auxiliary and licensed products.

Programs Management:

  • Review and develop new Business Unit Technical Bulletins ensuring full compliance with the latest KORE updates. Ensure all corresponding data collation relating to Technical Bulletins and procedures are made available to the BU, TCCC databases and share points.
  • Working in collaboration with the SMEs to evaluate business technical risks across the value chain processes including suppliers, bottlers, Co-packers and Distribution. Developing required action plans to ensure full compliance to Company policies and requirements so that potential risks are prevented.
  • Management of bottlers’ performance status updates on three wildly important priorities and associated goals on a regular basis.

Systems Management:

  • Develop tools, programs, systems and processes to continuously monitor changes in KORE and provide structures feedback to Corporate.
  • Provide systems leadership in the BU and Bottler Technical teams on implementation of KORE changes
  • Be the single point of contact on KORE status within the Business Unit on all aspects of Quality, Safety and environment. Address all frequent requests & queries from bottlers and Corporate regarding EOSH.

Data and Database Management:

  • Lead the maintenance of business information and data bases (share points, CTMS) for BU Stewardship strategic and tactical decisions and reports. This will include Business plans reviews, data validation for new lines, new processes, new plants etc., and analyzing gaps for decision making processes etc.
  • Establishing and maintaining best practices in document management systems in all aspects relating to Policies, guidelines, bottler communication protocol and capturing business information.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Influence the bottler to drive capability agenda within their organization by conducting capability assessment/analysis and taking action to close identified capability gaps.
  • Collaborate with Franchise Operations working closely with Franchise Technical Manager to establish management routines and drive alignment on capability focus areas.
  • Build capability within technical associates e.g. QSE Managers to step change our performance within the bottling operations

Business Unit Audits & Certification:

  • Coordinate Business Unit audits and ISO certification to ensure corrective action plans are in place to address identified gaps with the system and ensure effective risk mitigation through effective corrective action plans.
  • Review bottling plants audit reports and highlight all major gaps and track their corrective actions with Franchise Supply Chain and QSE Managers in order to ensure all reported issues are properly investigated through a robust root cause analyses and resolved in reasonable time.
  • Analyze the bottler audit failures and develop a trend for capability building.

Communication & Reporting:

  • Maintain, monitor and communicate to Business Unit Technical Leaderships and Franchise Technical teams on technical priorities and associated goals.
  • Communication of best practices to Business Unit and Bottler Technical Teams on programs, systems etc.
  • Collaborate with Franchise Operations working closely with the Franchise Technical Managers to establish management routines and drive alignment on capability focus areas
  • Collaboration with Corporate QSE and Capability teams, Bottler teams, Franchise teams.
  • Participate in team projects, cross functional committees of company-wide initiatives in order to share information represent the Department/Business Unit perspective or assist with program and process modification.
  • Influence the bottler to drive capability agenda within their organizations by conducting a capability assessment/analyses and then taking actions to close identified capability gaps.
  • Provide information to communications (PAC) team to use in communications/responses to consumer injuries and for internal and external communications documents.

Related Job Requirements/ Qualifications
Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 12 years in Quality, Safety, and Environment and Food Safety. Functional expertise in Supply Chain, Quality, Engineering. Experience in Bottling, Canning or FMCG operations, Commercialization, Environment, Auditing is an added advantage.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science: Industrial, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, Food Science & Technology, Biochemistry or related discipline.
  • Fluent in English and French is an added advantage.

Technical Skills:

  • Capability Development Management: Ability to design, develop and deploy training programs and processes related to QSE.
  • Supplier Development: Using knowledge of Supplier Manufacturing processes to influence and guide them in improving and developing their process capability, control and monitoring to ensure consistent delivery against Company standards
  • Project Management: Knowledge of project Management principles and the ability to apply the principles, tools and techniques to develop/plan, manage or execute projects or work plans to ensure successful completion (e.g. on time within budget)
  • Production Processes: Knowledge of syrup and beverage manufacturing process. These include blending solids, blending liquids or juices, carbonation, filling, water treatment, packaging, cleaning and sanitation, or refrigeration technologies
  • Fountain Knowledge: manufacturing capabilities, technology, distribution and business processes. Knowledge of fountain services policies and procedures.
  • Business Activity Process: Ability to establish and define processes and continuously monitor and improve processes to facilitate the execution of business activities.
