Job Title: Laboratory Manager
Location: Makurdi, Benue
Position Responsibilities
Laboratory Manager will contribute to the activities of the project titled “Genetic improvement of cowpea for Striga/Alectra resistance using molecular tools in Nigeria under direct supervision of the Project Leader. He/she will:
- Contribute to genomic resource development for cowpea breeding for biotic stresses.
- Contribute to DNA sequencing, bioinformatics and statistical analysis
- Supervise undergraduate, and postgraduate students working in the lab.
- Assist the Project Leader in implementing key activities of the project.
Educational Qualifications
- The candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Plant Genetics, or Cell Biology
Core Competencies:
- Experience (at least 2 years) in conducting molecular activities.
- Knowledge of Marker-assisted Breeding
- Spectrophotometric analysis
- Electrophoresis and DNA ANALYSIS
- DNA Extraction
- Isolation and Gel analysis of DNA from plantand animal
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Data management and reporting of lab activities.

- The job position is for a period of two years renewable subject to availability of funds.
Job Title: Research Technician
Location: Makurdi, Benue
Position Responsibilities
Research-will contribute to the field activities of the project titled “Genetic improvement of cowpea for Striga/Alectra resistance using molecular tools in Nigeria under direct supervision of the Project Leader. He/she will:
- Contribute to development and deployment for cowpea genetic improvement.
- Provide leadership and be responsible for coordination of all field activities.
Educational Qualifications
- The candidate should have an OND/HND in Crop Production, Plant Science or Pest Management.
Core Competencies:
- Statistical analysis and reporting
- Field crop establishment and data collection
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Job Title: Field Assistant
Location: Makurdi, Benue
Position Responsibilities
Field Assistant will contribute to the field activities of the project titled “Genetic Improvement of cowpea for Striga/Alectra resistance using molecular tools in Nigeria under direct supervision of the Project Leader. He/she will:
- Contribute to deployment of cowpea genetic improvement.
- Coordinate all field activities.
Educational Qualifications
- The candidate should have a WASC.
Core Competencies:
- Have valid drivers license
- Field crop establishment and data collection.
