We are a consultancy organisation providing technical and management expertise in the health and social sectors to governments and international development partners to transform the health of women and children.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Deputy Team Leader

Location: Abuja, Nigeria
Contract type: Full-time, fixed-term contract until January 2022

Job Description

  • The DTL provides high-level technical expertise & credibility for the delivery of safe abortion services in Kenya & Nigeria.
  • Working with the team & partners, the DTL will develop & roll-out technical tools & resources to ensure quality of service delivery.
  • S/he will support the design & implementation of a robust & innovative intervention model that can be taken to scale in a sustainable fashion.

Responsibilities
This role provides safe abortion expertise for the Safire programme. The post holder will apply the latest available evidence on service delivery approaches, particularly for youth, to design and implement technical guidance for the programme. The post holder will:

  • Develop – and/or oversee the development and quality assurance of – technical guidelines, protocols, informational materials and all other relevant resources required to reduce unsafe abortion, particularly amongst adolescent girls;
  • Devise and roll-out quality assurance plans, mechanisms and protocols to Safire teams, strengthening their capacity to work with local civil society organisations and private sector vendors to provide safe abortion services for youth;
  • Oversee all training initiatives across the programme, reviewing curricula, methods and tools, conducting field visits, addressing identified gaps and promoting systematic use of monitoring data to improve the quality of Safire’s approaches and interventions;
  • Work closely with consortium partners and country teams to deliver evidence-informed interventions that achieve expected results while adopting a robust safeguarding approach across the programme cycle.

Person Specification
Ideal candidates must meet at least the following requirements:

  • Strong commitment to human rights, equal opportunities and pro-choice;
  • Master’s degree or relevant post-graduate qualifications;
  • Demonstrable experience managing safe abortion project design and/or implementation in resource-limited settings;
  • Deep knowledge of emerging issues associated with medical abortion and self-care;
  • Ability to develop effective technical working relationships with counterparts and partners at different levels, across countries, organisations and teams;
  • Right to live and work in Kenya or Nigeria (priority will be given to candidates who hail from Sub-Saharan Africa).

Additional desirable skills and attributes are:

  • Recognised health practitioner qualification;
  • Experience of engagement with private sector providers;
  • Experience in risk management and in the design or implementation of safeguarding policies.
