Premiere Urgence Internationale (PUI) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political and non-religious international aid organization. Our teams are committed to supporting civilians’ victims of marginalization and exclusion, or hit by natural disasters, wars and economic collapses, by answering their fundamental needs. Our aim is to provide emergency relief to uprooted people in order to help them recover their dignity and regain self-sufficiency.

PUI is implementing humanitarian activities in Nigeria since April 2016, supporting population with food security, nutrition and health project in Maiduguri and Borno State. PUI is now looking for the position below to join its Nutrition team in Monguno:

 

Job Title: Nurse

Location: Monguno, Borno
Slot: 4 Openings
Starting date: 2nd September, 2019

General Objective

  • Under the Direct Supervision of the OPD Supervisor/Nurse Teamleader, the Nurse provides patients consultations in collaboration with Midwife and other team members in the facility.
  • S/he follows PUI protocols and standards to ensure Quality and contiunity of care, promotion and restoration of health of patients and population.

Responsabilities and Tasks
Consultation:

  • Welcome patients to the facility.
  • Establish personal rapport with potential and actual patients and their relatives.
  • Assess urgency and make sure urgent cases are seen first.
  • Assess and identify patients health needs.
  • In the role of Clinician, manage the cases under his/her line of technical expertise, but also provide nursing care according to the need of the patient.
  • Adhere to his/her level of therapeutic standards.
  • Give first aid when needed.
  • Provide low-key psychological support/Basic Psychological First Aid to patients according to need.
  • Provide individual and group health education to patients, when appropriate.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Document collected information on health cards and other records.
  • Ensure daily, weekly and monthly data collection for OPD

Organization:

  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with Universal standards, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Adhere to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.

Team Work:

  • In case of absence of another team member, the nurse will replace in the appropriate sector (nurses in other departments (triage, dressing, vaccination, nutrition, etc.…), midwives, registrar, and dispenser).
  • In case of absence of the Team Leader, the nurse will take the Lead and will become the security focal point of the team.
  • Ensure coordination and continuity of care through verbal and written reports and coordination with the other health staff.
  • Participate actively in meetings and trainings when required.
  • Perform other relevant duties as requested by supervisors.

Specific Objective and Linked Activities

  • Ensure the quality of care provided to patients in PUI facilities.
  • Provide essential preventative assistance services and follow up on identified beneficiaries with NCDs and other diseases/morbidities of Public Health relevance.
  • Provide training on selected topics on Non-Communicable Diseases and other of Public Health relevance.
  • Report on collected data.
  • Directly report any difficulties or delays in the implementation of activities.

Qualifications
Mandatory requirements:

  • Language skills: Good command in English (speaking, reading & writing)
  • Fluent in local languages – Kanuri, Hausa
  • Education degree: Recognized Nurse Degree (at least certificate level) with national legislation
  • Work experience: 2-3 years of experience in Nursing, or in OPD services.
  • Work experience with other NGO’s would be an asset.

Knowledge and skills:

Job Title: Nutrition Officer

Location: Monguno, Borno
Slot: 3 Openings
Starting Date: 2nd September, 2019
End of Contract: 31/03/2019 (with possibility of extension)

General Objective

  • Working under the guidance and supervision of the Nutrition Supervisor, the Nutrition Officer will be directly responsible for implementation of Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) or Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) program depending on assignment.
  • Responsibilities will include day to day supports to Nutritional activities in the health facilities, mobile health outposts and their catchment communities, monitoring of activities, report making, coordination with other sectors as well as close collaboration with the Nutrition unit at the MOH health facility staff and managers.

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Responsible for the day to day management of Nutrition activities (IYCF or CMAM)
  • Working closely with the Nutrition Supervisors and other project team; support in the identification, recruitment and supervision of the activities of Community Nutrition Mobilisers (CNM) and Mother Care Groups (MCG)
  • With technical support from CMAM and IYCF Supervisors conduct trainings to build the capacity of CNMs and the community at large
  • Provide technical support to PUI staff, MoH and other humanitarian actors as necessary to promote consistent good practice
  • Ensure appropriate and consistent education messaging/behaviour change communication (BCC) to mothers and other carers at OTP and IYCF sites in the community
  • Ensure sound and timely data collection based on the existent database systems for ongoing monitoring of Nutrition project activities
  • Ensure that all Nutrition activities are consistent with established best practices according to the standardized protocols, policies and guidelines outlined by the Nigeria Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) and World Health Organisation (WHO)
  • Conduct regular supportive supervision to all supported health facilities and catchment communities, provide mentoring and technical support and appropriate feedback as needed
  • Work with the nutrition team to ensure appropriate use of all programme resources under his/her care
  • Ensure a good working relationship with all stakeholders involved in the PUI service provision to supported health facilities and catchment communities in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC)

Specific Objectives and Linked Activities

  • Implement the outpatient therapeutic feeding of severely malnourished under-fives, and community outreach integrated with Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) according to the stipulated protocols
  • Train and mentor the nutrition program staff and the integrated community nutrition mobilisers (CNM) through identification of capacity gaps and carrying out refresher trainings and on-the-job trainings
  • Disseminate key messages on nutrition to the targeted beneficiaries, and ensure it is delivered appropriately
  • Participate in surveillance activities including mass MUAC screening of the under-fives/pregnant and lactating woman based on project needs.
  • Enhance close collaboration with Health, Food Security, and Protection and Community Outreach (PCO) at project level
  • Compile and submit accurate weekly and monthly project data/reports of all the nutrition activities
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications
Mandatory Requirements:

  • Language skills: Good command in English,(speaking, reading & writing) Hausa and Kanuri
  • Education degree: Bachelor in Medicine, Nutrition, Dietetics, Nursing or equivalent
  • Work experience: At least 1 year experience in CMAM and Infant and IYCF in Emergency in host communities or IDP camp settings. Experience in NGO is mandatory

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding of nutritional surveillance and information systems
  • Proven ability and experience in planning and conducting formal training session on nutrition including CMAM and IYCF

Job Title: Registrar

Location: Monguno, Borno

General objective

  • Under the direct supervision of the Nurse Team Leader/ Nurse, as well as under supervision of Midwives, the Registrar prepares patients for his/her consultation and registers the patients according to PUI protocols.

Responsibilities and Tasks
Patient Care:

  • Be the first contact for patients attending the PHCC and provide patients with information they required.
  • Inform patients about the PHC/Health clinic function and process.
  • Ensure the availability of a comfortable waiting area for patients and their relatives.
  • Record accurately and on a readable manner, the clinical case management (history taking, physical examination, treatment, investigation, etc.) on the patient registration book.
  • Manage the situation in the waiting area and ensure a good patient flow.
  • Bring any patient with an obviously serious medical problem to the attention of the Nurse or Midwife.
  • Request timely for new registration books, health cards or forms.
  • Maintain cleanliness of environment, equipment and materials.
  • Ensure that all patients and their relatives are treated equally with respect of ethical and confidential issues
  • Be available for any emergency

Other duties:

  • Report to the supervisor any problem especially the gap/loss/robbery/damage of medical equipment or medicines or any patient and organizational issue.
  • Adhere to the supervisor with regards to work schedules, record keeping, patient communications, re-stocking of necessary drugs, consumables and other items
  • Participate in any other activities such as vaccination, survey, etc…according to the needs
  • Comply with PUI security procedures at all times, remaining aware of the security situation in office and clinic locations at all times.
  • Participate to any training in order to improve the quality and efficiency of the work.
  • Participate actively in meetings when required.
