- It is also bringing together regulators and other stakeholders in the electricity sector to raise consumer awareness and pilot new approaches to improving transparency in electricity distribution
- The foundation is also working to promote accountability in governance
- The BBC World Service is teaming up the MacArthur Foundation to produce and publish a series of multimedia content around these key areas.
Job Purpose
- We are looking for a seasoned Broadcast Journalist with a track record of editorial leadership and excellence to support the Series Editor and the rest of the team in delivering the project
- The role is based in Abuja but frequent travel is required for on-location recording in different parts of Nigeria
- The series will originally be in Hausa with the BBC Hausa Service and other partner stations airing the radio content which will be adapted to other platforms
- The project will also have strong digital components which will also go on BBC and partner platforms
- The format will involve debates and town hall events as well as other short reports and self-authored pieces to be recorded in different parts of Nigeria.
Main Duties
- As Senior Broadcast Journalist/presenter, you are to ensure that content has depth, creativity and is of high editorial standards capable of generating impact and healthy engagement on social media.
- You are to also to liaise with all the relevant departments within the BBC and the MacArthur Foundation for the smooth execution of the project.
- As team leader you are to ensure that other team members have the necessary training and kit to produce the series.
- You will work closely with the Business Development unit to ensure that partners and other outlets get materials for reversion on time.
- You may also be updating the client on the progress of the project and ensure you attend the cohorts meetings.
- You will ensure that the production team is highly motivated and working effectively to deliver the series
- You are also to ensure that guests and participants are secured and booked on time for any recording
Skills and Competencies
- Proficiency in English and Hausa
- Sound editorial judgement
- Strong journalism and field reporting experience
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Knowledge of TV production and use of social media platforms to drive engagement
- Team leadership experience and ability to assist in training and development
- Familiarity with the Nigerian media landscape
- Evidence of strong, impactful journalism
- Strong awareness of health and safety/high risk issues especially those relating to field work in Nigeria
- A good knowledge of production and distribution processes, techniques and technology

- In this role, you are to generate strong ideas around the key intervention areas of the project and translate the ideas into engaging, creative multimedia content in Hausa and English.
- Researching, scripting and packaging across platforms
- Adapting content for digital platforms
- Reversioning content for use by external partners and other BBC platforms
- Interviewing, presenting and moderating debates/town halls
- Tracking content performance on social media
- Preparing interview briefs and sourcing background information on any topic as may be assigned to you
- Booking guests and audience for debates/town hall events
Skills and Competencies

Job Purpose
- The delivery of this project involves world class production and packaging of multimedia content. We are looking for a Multi Skilled Technical Operator with wide ranging skills in the areas of lighting, camera operation, multi-channel audio recording and video editing.
- The post holder will work with technical partners and also operate project kit as may be required. The role requires frequent travel to Nigeria for recordings.
Main Duties
- Operate audio and video recording equipment
- Serve as a rigger/de-rigger
- Provide technical expertise during and after on-location recordings
- Edit video/audio material
- Liaising with technical external providers during field recordings
- To identify faults in equipment under his/her charge, recognising and reporting poor quality material to team members, engineering or production staff, as appropriate
- Maintaining a digital archive of all materials including rushes and packaged items
- Ensuring effective maintenance and safety of project kit
- Contributing to the planning of programmes in association with staff from other operational disciplines
- Ensuring that all work (studio and location) is carried out in accordance with a safe system of work and that the requirements of statutory and BBC safety regulations are fully met including adherence to Health and Safety Policy
- To maintain and develop operational and technical standards in resourcing including the assistance in the planning of programmes and the resolution of technical queries.
Skills/Competencies
- Extensive field recording experience using latest equipment
- Camera operation experience
- Excellent rigging and de-rigging skills
- Good knowledge of recording debates and town hall events especially on location in Nigeria
- Ability to communicate concisely and clearly in written and spoken English – knowledge of Hausa an added advantage
- Knowing the right formats for recording, downloading, uploading, editing and sharing audio/video files
- Able to understand operational, journalistic and production requirements
- Ability to establish and maintain communication circuits for pre-recorded material including acceptance/use of remote source/s Demonstrable experience working in a live broadcast environment Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Excellent IT skills and the ability to acquire technical skills and to operate technical equipment is essential
- A good knowledge and commitment to providing output of technical high quality
- Good interpersonal skills to establish harmonious working relationships with a variety of personalities, able to communicate effectively with others and keep them informed on progress and to clarify production requirements.
- Able to demonstrate editorial awareness and an understanding of BBC News priorities and objectives
- The ability to work fast, accurately and under pressure to tight deadlines
