Legal Superintendent Job in an Offshore Logistics Company

Job Title: Legal Superintendent

Location: Lagos

Objective

  • To provide timely, reliable and efficient legal advice and support to all departments of the Company on contractual rights and obligations; and provide clarification of contract terms and conditions.
  • To ensure that the Company complies with regulatory and statutory requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
  • To support the Company’s leadership in managing and mitigating contractual and commercial risks.

Client Contract:

  • Handle a range of issues related to contract management, including the review, interpretation, and application of client agreements and related documents.
  • Conduct and maintain an extensive inventory of all client agreements and create a database of all rights and obligations created by such agreements which require further action and follow-up.
  • Undertake basic or extensive review of all client agreements and related legal documentations; identify important issues, similarities, and inconsistencies and propose appropriate amendments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Compliance:

  • Monitor, ensure adherence to, and identify changes in legislations.
  • Prepare a broad range of compliance documents relating to the Company.
  • Match up all relevant regulatory and statutory requirements with Company business activities in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 QMS standards.
  • Provide legal and compliance support to the internal clients by providing best in class counselling, training, negotiations, planning, processes and procedures
  • Conduct periodic regulatory, anti-corruption and anti-bribery compliance reviews; prepare and submit mandatory reports required; and properly document all regulatory compliance matters.
  • Monitor and update corporate legal risk register in line with ISO 9001:2015 QMS Standards.

Education and Qualifications

  • LL.B. (Hons) with minimum of Second class lower division from a reputable University.
  • B.L. from the Nigerian Law School.
  • A valid NYSC discharge or exemption certificate will be required.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in the practice of law, including legal analysis, research and writing is required.
  • Experience at a leading law firm dealing with corporate and commercial law or maritime law; particularly in the preparation, review, negotiation and documentation of commercial contracts
