The West African Power Pool (WAPP) is a specialized institution of [COWAS that operates in the general interest of the regional power network system in order to ensure a reliable power supply throughout the region (Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo). Today, WAPP comprises thirty-five (35) electricity companies that are public and private power generation, transmission, distribution and commercialisation entities involved in the operation of the power network system in West Africa.

Job Title: Trainer (WAPP Dispatchers)

Details
- The information and Coordination Center (ICC) is an organ of the WAPP General Secretariat in charge of operational coordination between the members who own and operate the transmission network as well as the electricity market management.
- The training course is being developed and will be validated by the WAPP appropriate instance. The WAPP General Secretariat is now looking to recruit eight (8) trainers who will be in charge of providing regular training sessions to dispatchers or future dispatchers from the different Transmission System Operators (TSO) of the WAPP and from the ICC, and evaluating the skills acquired by the trainees during the training, with a view to their certification by the WAPP.
- As part of its mandate, the ICC ensures uniformity of training and certification requirements across the region, including ICC operators. To this end, it is developing a training and certification program for electricity transmission system operators to complement existing training and certification programs in the different countries, in order to promote qualified system operators to ensure reliable operation of the regional interconnected electrical system.
Mission Details
- Part-time position for the preparation and realization of one-off training (initial training, advanced training and maintenance of the skills of the electricity system operators of the sub-region) in accordance with the multi-year training plan. Travel to WAPP member countries is to be expected.
Your Missions
We are looking for candidates able to lead training sessions, to design and run simulations and to evaluate trainees’ acquisition of skills in the field of electrical system operation (dispatching).
In detail, your missions will be the following:
- Lead the training and interact with the trainees,
- Plan, organize and communicate his training schedule,
- Lead simulations on the Dispacher Training Simulator (DTS) which wilt allow, on the basis of exercises lose to rea1ituations, the trainee to be put in a particular situation and toverify that he kris how to implement the theoretical contributions of the training,
- Conduct an evaluation of trainees during and at the end of the training,
- Prepare upstream simulations on the DTS (they must be adapted periodically so as not to be identical every time), Prepare upstream evaluation questionnaires which will make it possible to evaluate the level of achievement of the training objectives at the end of each session (they must be adapted before each session so as not to be identical to the previous sessions),
- Write a report based on the evaluations: it is on the basis of this report given by the trainers that the certification will be issued by the WAPP,
- Adapt all the documents necessary for the training, especially taking into account the evolution of the procedures and experience feedback.
Your profile
We are looking for people from WAPP member entities who meet the following
criteria:
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with experience as a dispatcher (operator and/or manager) for at least 4 years in a dispatching department, including retirees of less than 5 years or Higher National Diploma (Bac + 2) or Bachelor (Bac +3) in Electrical Engineering with an experience as a dispatcher (operator and/or manager) for at least 8 years in a dispatching department, including retirees of less than 5 years,
- If possible, experience of at least 3 years training dispatchers,
- If possible, have received training in the use of SCADA,
- Experience using a DTS is a plus.
