Job Title: HSE Engineer

Location: Abuja

Job Description

  • We are looking to hire an objective-oriented HSE Engineer who is safety conscious and oriented, to help ensure safety of all, for one of its construction project sites in FCT, Abuja.

Primary Purpose

  • Develop Plant Safety Audit plan, design HSE training program according to required regulations for all the employees.
  • Ensure, in accordance with the statutory guidelines, implementation, updating, review and auditing of the Company HSE Systems.
  • Monitor the effective implementation of appropriate Safety, Health and Environment System procedure and provide for their updating in line with changes in Legislation and Company Directives.

Duties

  • Implement all Safety permits (work confined space, work at height etc).
  • Form a SLP (Safety Loss Prevention) committee and hold monthly review meeting. Circulate and implement the Minutes of the meeting.
  • Ensure all safety related tools and equipment’s are always in working condition.
  • Provides for motivation and familiarization of all company personnel respecting the importance of complying with the company system procedures and all Safety equipment provided.
  • Ensure implementation of HSE Management System is suitable, adequate and effective to promote continuous improvement in HSE performance.
  • Achieve and maintain HSE program external certifications in alignment with the company objectives.
  • Develop and manage HSE Labour, expense and professional services budgets, including training programs to promote staff professional development.
  • Conduct internal and external safety audits, and take part in accident / incident investigations.
  • Ensure all employees inside the plant are using PPE’s (personal protective equipment’s) at all times).
  • Obtain and comply with all facility required environmental permits.
  • Lead / coordinate negotiations with regulatory agencies on permit conditions.
  • Performs Risk Assessment and prepare and send monthly HSE report to the Management.
  • Review and analyze data from audits, accident investigations, near misses, concessions, defect reports and customer complaints to identify adverse trends and implement preventive action.
  • Identify and facilitate continuous improvement opportunities and monitor progress.

Educational / Experience / Qualifications and Other Skills Required

  • BS or MS or HND in Engineering, Environmental, Safety, Industrial Hygiene (preferred) and relevant professional certification.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience developing and maintaining management systems for quality, health & safety and environment
  • An ISO Certified Auditor qualification.
  • Practical approach to problem solving in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Conflict Management.

 

Job Title: Civil Project Engineer

Location: Abuja

Duties

  • Anchor on-site construction activities to ensure completion of project within the time & cost parameters and effective resource utilisation to maximise the output.
  • Implementing day-to-day contracts / commercial administration during execution stages and finally claims and arbitration management towards achieving the targeted financial objectives.
  • Dealt with customer for contract related matters & claims settlement like Price Variation, Quantity Variation, Extra Claims.
  • Maintaining records for delays & obtained Liquidated damages waiver.
  • Communicating with client and consultant, keeping track of progressvolt and ensuring that projects are on time and in budget while monitoring projects budget for material and manpower.
  • Exhibit problem solving skills and the ability to mitigate risk by implementing strategies in alignment objectives to meet the target.
  • Inspecting work in progress to ensure conformity with QA/QC specifications and requirements, industry codes, standards and procedures, and provides technical advices to resolve problems.
  • Advising the project team in determining and procurement of materials to be delivered at specific times in order to conform to the workloads, plans and schedules in the site.
  • Establish procedures for warehouses with respect to scheduled material deliveries for smooth logistic channels / distribution.
  • Review stock in hand, arrival schedule of materials, requirements periodically and coordinated with procurement team so that there was no material constraint affecting project progress.
  • Liaising with local authorities and their requirements and submission of information for obtaining NOC & approvals.
  • Developing project baselines, monitoring and controlling projects with respect to cost, resource deployment, time over runs and quality compliance to ensure satisfactory execution of projects.
  • Preparing project estimate & tender, finalizing contractors, checking the bills with estimated quantities and purchasing the materials for the site.
  • Regulating the project start-up contracts / agreements, due diligence, formulation and negotiations in coordination with internal and external legal / commercial teams.
  • Implementing day-to-day contracts / commercial administration during execution stages and finally claims and arbitration management towards achieving the targeted financial objectives.
  • Inspecting field sites to observe and evaluate condition and operability of facilities and structures and collecting field survey data and measurements.
  • Designing and implementing stringent systems and quality plans / manuals to ensure high quality standards during all the stages of project.
  • Liaising with Clients, Consultants, Contractors & External Agencies for determining technical specifications, approvals and obtaining clearances.
  • Communicating with client and consultant, keeping track of progress and ensuring that projects are on time and in budget while monitoring projects budget for material and manpower
  • Coordinated with Port Authorities, Road Authorities & C&F agents to ensure efficient and timely supply of resources.
  • Compile and submit daily reports.

Education / Experience / Other Requirements

  • HND / B.Sc. in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar position. Candidates with experience in a large Engineering / Construction company will be preferred.
  • Preference will be given to the candidates holding relevant qualifications.
  • Must be capable of interpreting the intent of various construction practice and standards to achieve high level of execution at site.
  • Proficient with standard computer software (such as MS Word, Powwerpoint and Excel), and experience on relevant software such as AutoCAD, PrimaveraP6, and Microsoft Project (MSP).
  • Ability to write construction progress reports attaching relevant photographs.
  • Maintaining an organised system of files.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies Required:

  • Proficient in executing and planning civil projects entailing planning, estimation, resource utilization, maintenance & quality management with a flair for adopting modern construction
  • Multi-tasking leader with qualitative approach in formulating strategic plans, executing projects and establishing entire operations with key focus on profitability and company’s image; spearheading project budgeting, bidding and cost analysis with excellent background in estimation
  • Experience in ensuring on-time deliverables within pre-set cost parameters.
  • Expertise in planning and completing construction projects with a flair for adopting modern construction methodologies, complying with quality standards.
  • Skilled at analyzing progress & project trends, method statements, work procedures, risk analysis and in measuring productivity.
  • Possess exceptional communication, problem-solving and planning skills.
  • Must demonstrate Leadership and Capacity to Collaborate.
  • Must have ability of problem Solving / Analysis.
