The Kaduna State Government hereby invites applications from interested and qualified Kaduna State citizens wishing to study Overseas to apply for the KSSB Foreign scholarship award programmes for 2020/2021 academic session.
The Kaduna State Scholarship and Loans Board have a mandate ‘To identify, select and empower qualified citizens of Kaduna state to meet the current and future manpower requirements of the State while remaining globally competitive’.
Furthermore, the Kaduna State Government is particular about rewarding excellence and hard work for all its citizens.

Kaduna State Foreign Scholarship Award – Avaliable Scholarships
There is currently five (5) main types of scholarship schemes for applicants wishing to apply.
- Merit Based Foreign Scholarship: they are generally for Undergraduate and Postgraduate students
- Need-Based Foreign Scholarship: (Candidates from indigent families) they are generally for Undergraduate and Postgraduate students.
- Disability Foreign Scholarship: (Candidates living with Special Needs) they are generally for Undergraduate and Postgraduate students.
- Emerging Skills Fund (Merit Based): they are generally for Undergraduate and Postgraduate students.
- Sports Based: (Candidates taking parts in Sports for the State) they are generally for Postgraduate students.
A. MERIT BASED SCHOLARSHIP
The Kaduna State Government is interested in giving international exposure in the areas of education and best practices to its teeming youth who demonstrate excellent academic credentials. Maximum spend on this type of scholarship is $41,000 for all courses except Medicine that has a maximum spend of $55,000. Students with admission in schools requiring more than this amount can have a cocktail of scholarship and loans (loans are available from the Kaduna State Scholarship and Loans Board at 8% per annum.).
B. NEEDS BASED SCHOLARSHIP
The Kaduna State Government is particular about ensuring that indigent students (poor and needy) have equal access to quality education as a leveler to prosperity.
C. DISABILITY FOREIGN SCHOLARSHIP
The Kaduna State Government is particular about inclusiveness and therefore gives special consideration to persons living with special needs.
D. EMERGING SKILLS FUND FOREIGN SCHOLARSHIP
The Kaduna State Government is particular about ensuring that citizens of Kaduna are prepared for the skills requirement of the future. The World order is changing so fast and the current skills set are becoming less irrelevant. We have to begin to train our teeming youths for the opportunities of tomorrow This scholarship aims to link today learning to the skills of tomorrow. Maximum spend on this type of scholarship is $41,000. Students with admission in schools requiring more than this amount can have a cocktail of scholarship and loans (loans are available from the Kaduna State Scholarship and Loans Board at 8% per annum.)
Furthermore, the Kaduna State Government is particular about sports as a way of productively engaging our energetic young men and women. This scholarship is aimed at identifying and supporting talents while ensuring that academic excellence is not sacrificed.
E. SPORTS BASED FOREIGN SCHOLARSHIP
The Kaduna State Government is interested in giving international exposure in the areas of sports, education and best practices to its teeming youth who demonstrate excellent sports and academic credentials. Maximum spend on this type of scholarship is $41,000. Students with admission in schools requiring more than this amount can have a cocktail of scholarship and loans (loans are available from the Kaduna State Scholarship and Loans Board at 8% per annum.)
Eligibility
- All applicants must be citizens of Kaduna State.
- Preferably candidates from indigent families.
- Applicants must possess minimum qualifications. This is to ensure that those selected would be able to successfully complete their studies with ease and within the stipulated time.
- The certificate should no be more than two (2) years old (2017 & 2018)
- The age limit for applicants should be 17 to 20 years.
Requirements
1. MERIT BASED SCHOLARSHIP
a. Merit Based Foreign Scholarship – Under Graduate
- Grade A in at least five subjects and Grade B for the other subjects including Mathematics and English taken in WASSCE or NECO in one seating and not before 2017
- Candidates can apply without a secured admission, but admission must be gotten from an approved university before scholarship award.
b. Merit Based Foreign Scholarship – Post Graduate
- An undergraduate first-class degree to apply for Masters
- A Masters distinction to apply for PhD
- Candidates can apply without a secured admission, but admission must be gotten from an approved university before the scholarship award
2. NEED BASED FOREIGN SCHOLARSHIP
a. Need-Based Foreign Scholarship – Under Graduate
- Minimum Grade C in at least five subjects including Mathematics and English in WASSCE or NECO in one sitting and not later than 2018
- Candidates can apply without a secured admission, but admission must be gotten from an approved university before the scholarship award
- ** Make sure your parents (both) urgently get their Tax Certificate immediately
- If any of your parents is dead, make sure you have his/her death certificate in place of their Tax Certificate
- If any of your parents is a peasant or housewife in any of the urban or rural areas, make sure they get a tax certificate even if they earn as low as N100. Tax offices are in every local government area in Nigeria.
b. Need-Based Foreign Scholarship – Post Graduate
- A graduating second class lower degree or 2.5 of 4.0 for Masters application
- A Masters merit for PhD application
- Candidates can apply without a secured admission, but admission must be gotten from an approved university before the scholarship award

4. EMERGING SKILLS FUND FOREIGN SCHOLARSHIP
a. Emerging Skills Fund Foreign Scholarship (Merit-Based) – Undergraduate
- Evidence of Grade B in at least five subjects including Mathematics and English and Grade C for the other subjects taken in WASSCE or NECO in one seating and not later than 2017
- Candidates can apply without a secured admission, but admission must be gotten from an approved university before the scholarship award
b. Emerging Skills Fund Foreign Scholarship (Merit-Based) – Post Graduate
- A graduating CGPA of 4.0 of 5.0 or 3.2 of 4.0 for Masters Application
- A Masters merit grade for Ph.D. application
- Candidates can apply without a secured admission, but admission must be gotten from an approved university before the scholarship award.
5. SPORTS BASED FOREIGN SCHOLARSHIP
a. Sports Based Foreign Scholarship – Post Graduate
- A letter of attestation from the sports department of your school graduating second class lower degree 2.5 of 4.0 for Masters application
- A Masters merit for Ph.D. application
- Candidates can apply without a secured admission, but admission must be gotten from an approved university before the scholarship award
