The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) was established in the United Kingdom in 1997 and subsequently registered in Lagos, Nigeria in 1999 as an independent, not-for-profit, research, training, advocacy and capacity building organisation. The Centre was founded to mobilise global opinion and resources for democratic development and provide an independent space to reflect critically on the challenges posed to the democratization and development processes in the West Africa sub region. As the foremost think tank on democratization and development in West Africa, CDD provides alternatives and best practices in support of democracy and good governance in the region.

Job Description

  • The Centre requires two Social Media Interns to support its rapidly expanding engagement of the social media space.
  • The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of the digital media landscape, including various social media sites
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to website redesign projects, monitoring and posting on blogs and social networks, engaging in online forums, participating in online outreach and promotion, optimizing website and conducting keyword analysis.

Core Responsibilities

  • Work with the Communication Lead to create and implement campaigns across programme portfolio
  • Develop content calendars on a weekly and monthly basis for the organization’s products / materials
  • Monitor analytics to identify viable ideas
  • Create engaging blog and social media content
  • Assist in the general distribution of press releases and media alerts
  • Assist in design advocacy strategies and plans; facilitate stakeholders engagements
  • Support Communications Team to proactively engage in outreach using relevant technology and innovative tools.

Educational Qualification & Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications or related field
  • 1+ years experience in social media management
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • In-depth working knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest and Google+
  • Experience with social media analytics, including Google Analytics and Facebook Insights

Introduction

  • The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) is an independent, not-for-profit, research, training, advocacy, and capacity building organisation established in the United Kingdom in 1997 and registered in Nigeria in 1999. The Centre was established to mobilise global opinion and resources for democratization, development and human security in West Africa also provide alternatives and best practices to the sustenance of democracy and development in the region.
  • The Centre is in search of a web designer who will redesign and manage the Upright4Nigeria anti-corruption website. The website would contain extensive anti-corruption materials, including knowledge products, news stories, captivating and edutaining videos, documentaries, etc. to enlighten the broad spectrum of Nigerians on the danger of corruption.
  • It must be an efficient tool to raise awareness of anti-corruption issues and support the work of development practitioners and other stakeholders on social behavioural change on anti-corruption campaigns. It must also promote web-based whistle-blowing channel that allows Nigerians to report and get feedback on corrupt practices in their localities.

About SCRAP-C project:

  • The Strengthening Citizen’s Resistance Against the prevalence of corruption (SCRAP-C) project aims to influence social norms and attitudes that help corruption to thrive in Nigeria to effect social change.
  • The project leverages on social capital and social networks to promote a corruption adverse mentality. It also aims to build confidence in Nigerians and values around honesty, integrity, and transparency (HIT) and counter the pessimistic feelings of helplessness associated with the state of corruption in Nigeria.
  • SCRAP-C is being implemented by CDD together with other consortium and implementing partners. It is a 5-year project supported by DFID.

Project Scope
The work will cover the following activities:

  • It must be UX/UI design based on best practices.
  • Theme design and development.
  • Setting up of CMS on the domain to enable the Centre maintains the site without requiring a dedicated workstation or additional software.
  • Content entry. This will include text and pictures for each page to be created with the initial set-up
  • Brower testing to ensure that it works with modern browsers on laptops, desktops and mobile phones.
  • It must contain features that is reflective of the goal it meant to serve as underscored above.
  • It must be user friendly

The technical proposal should include the following:

  • Details outline of how the design will be conducted and workplan.
  • Specific features of the website and how they will work
  • Experience of performing similar kind of tasks with portfolio.
  • Cost of redesigning the website.
  • Any submission made by companies must be accompanied by a CAC registration certificate.

Requirements

  • At least four years of relevant proven experience (supported by a submitted design portfolio) in the field of web sites design and web applications;
  • Creativity and imagination in proposing suitable designs for web sites, taking into account their purpose, usability and audience;
  • Expertise in HTML 5, Cascading Style Sheets 3, Javascript;
  • Experienced with front-end development frameworks;
  • Extensive knowledge of device and cross-platform browser compatibility restrictions and requirements, including responsive web design;
  • Experience in usability, user analysis and internationalization of web sites;
  • Expertise in using image editing/graphics tools and prototyping tools;
  • Ability to estimate.

 

Job Title: Script Writer and Producer (Radio Drama & Comedy for Change)

Scope of Work
Radio drama script writer and a producer:

  • It is well established that a good, quality and entertainment-based radio drama would engage, involve, and lean imprints on the audience, particularly on issues relating to corruption.
  • Its impressionable impact on audience would unarguably lead to behavioural change.

CDD-West Africa would be interested in a radio drama script writer and producer that:

  • Raises the knowledge level of people on the strategic collective actions to be taken to mitigate it. This must take cognisance of socio-political, economic, and environmental contexts in Nigeria.
  • The script writer is expected to produce the episode as well.
  • Showcase the impact of corruption (cost of corruption) in Nigeria.
  • Showcase the consequences of not taking actions to address the phenomenon of corruption.
  • Uses real-life issues/problems and what resonates with Nigerian (such as football) to drive conversation around the significance of collective actions to fight corruption in the country.
  • Has the capacity to raise people’s conscious, leading to behavioural changes on corruption-related issues for every Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic, religious, and political affiliations.
  • The drama series will be produced in five languages; Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Pidgin English and English language
  • The total cost of production, broken down into budget lines.
  • The radio drama is expected to be produced in English, Pidgin English, Yoruba, Hausa, and Igbo languages.

Comedy for Social Change:

  • Comedy is a powerful source of influence and information. It opens doors to complex issues, persuades people emotionally and can break down social barriers.
  • CDD-West Africa is leveraging on comedy to bring people to understand the consequences and impacts of corruption in Nigeria.
  • As such, the Centre is looking forward to receiving EoI from a qualified vendor on the production of comedy for social change that:

CDD-West Africa would be interested in a script writer and a producer that:

  • Has persuasive power to change corruption averse mentality of Nigerians.
  • Capture attention cut through the clutter, provide access to new information and offer strategic ideas for collective actions against corruption.
  • Articulate specific call to action that is reflective of realities of the day.
  • Is culturally sensitive and use satire to mobilise Nigerians to support anti-corruption campaigns.
  • The comedy for social change is also expected to be produced in English, Pidgin English, Yoruba, Hausa, and Igbo languages.

The technical proposal should include

  • The Comedy Script outline will be written in clear cut captioned messages being depicted in each scene.
  • Production of the episodes will be in the five (5) selected languages; English, Pidgin English, Yoruba, Hausa, and Igbo languages.
  • Details of technical production process and schedule.
  • Experience of performing similar kind of tasks.
  • The total cost of production, broken down into budget lines.
  • Any submission made by companies must be accompanied by a CAC registration certificate as well as sample work done in the past (if available).

Assessment and Selection of Proposals
Proposals will be evaluated using the following criteria:

  • Clarity, creativity, contextually relevant, and coherent.
  • Story/script outline and its ability to connect messages with the audience.
  • Feasibility of the workplan
  • Credentials of the applicant
  • Proposed budget
