WASH PHP & NFI Assistant – COVID-19 at Action Against Hunger Nigeria

Job Title: WASH PHP & NFI Assistant – COVID-19

Location: Maiduguri, Borno
Job Type: Full Time
Starting date: As Soon As Possible
Direct Line Manager: WASH Officer

Objective 1

  • Participate in the implementation of COVID-19 Response Activities.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct WASH needs assessment and identifies the communities and HF at high risk of COVID-19 for IPC and Risk Communication and Community Engagement
  • Conduct hygiene promotion and COVID 19 awareness and sensitization
  • Assist in conducting house to house visits to monitor hygiene practices
  • Contribute to response to the pandemic by actively participating in internal coordination forums and sub-groups to address specific needs
  • Provide advice, education, and support to frontline health workers in select health facilities
  • Ensure the gender mainstreaming during the implementation of activities

Objective 2

  • Participate in Risk Communication and Community Engagement

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Support WASH officer in Identification and training of existing community volunteers or Community Nutrition Monitors and Surveillance officers on Surveillance and Risk communication on COVID 19
  • Support in disseminating key BCC program information related to COVID 19 Infection prévention through innovation and learning priorities in effective community mobilization approaches
  • Ensure all stakeholders: IDP camp leaders, community leaders, religious leaders, market women leaders, are engaged in COVID 19 responses in all the areas of intervention.
  • Ensures that the COVID-19 preparedness and response operation are properly communicated to all stakeholders and implemented according to WHO and NCDC guidelines.
  • Facilitate community awareness on the use of facemask in all the intervention areas.
  • Ensures feedback, community perceptions and insights are regularly analyzed and shared with key operation teams and decision-makers to inform action
  • Engages in dialogue with key stakeholders’ leadership to ensure community engagement issues and insights drive the health response
  • Leads and coordinates the setting up/strengthening of appropriate feedback systems in line with established feedback to gain a deeper understanding of the community perceptions, beliefs, rumors and complaints about COVID 19.
  • Support community volunteers and Surveillance Officer in identifying and sensitizing hot spot zones in communities
  • Support community volunteers and Surveillance Officer on sensitization in communities on COVID 19

Objective 3

  • Support Isolation centers, Health Facilities

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Carry out IPC assessment on various health facilities and communities of areas of interventions.
  • Support health workers in waste management disposal training
  • Technically support the development of job aids, training materials, information sheets on COVID-19 related infection prevention and control
  • Support training of Health Workers on IPC, and Risk communication
  • Support and monitor the renovation of isolation points at the health facilities.
  • Support health facilities in developing infection prevention and control weekly plan
  • Activate IPC committees in communities and health facilities with training, tools, measurement packages, job aides
  • Ensure that isolation points staff maintain standard precaution with respect to Infection Prevention and Control at all times.
  • Ensure isolation points are functionally set up to serve temporarily as an observation room of all suspected cases in the LGA before they are transported to the LGA.
  • Follow-up with all suspected cases to ensure that they receive the expected care until they are taking out of the LGA.
  • Engage the family of suspected cases on regular education on IPC, and debunked rumor on COVID-19 in the community

Objective 4

  • Support in the coordination of all COVID-19 related activities at the LGA level

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the WASH officer to coordinate with targeted LGA stakeholders to carry out all activities related to COVID-19.
  • Collaborate with community influencer to ensure that community members buy-in the project ideas on Infection Prevention and Control

Skills and Experience
Essential:

  • Experience on behavioral change and communication (BCC) and Public Health Promotion
  • Community mobilization and sensitization models/approaches
  • Experience multisectoral programming like WASH, Health, and Nutrition Programming.
  • Experience in leading community engagement approaches and capacity building efforts of local organizations.
  • Experience in designing and implementing assessments, community consultations, research activities.
  • Experience in an international organization or NGO

Preferred:

  • Good understanding of IPC and Risk Communication and Community Engagement issues in COVID-19 contexts.
  • Sensitivity to challenging political contexts and understanding of risk management processes.
  • Able to capture learning and use it to make improvements in programming and operations.
  • Good knowledge of gender and diversity issues in humanitarian programming
  • Team management and activity planning
  • Good knowledge of the intervention area
  • Ability to speak the local language is a must: Hausa, Kanuri

Qualification

  • University Degree / Higher National Diploma Certificate or equivalent and professional experience in Environmental Health Sciences, Community Health, Nursing, Public Health, Health Education, Sociology and other Social Science discipline and experience in WASH, behavior change, Health, and Nutrition program.

Minimum Basic Salary
Salary: NGN156,995 per Month
