Job Title: Financial Controller

- A hyper-growth ‘Challenger Bank’ is looking for a Financial Controller to add to their team of disruptors, trailblazers, innovators and risk-takers.
- As their Financial Controller, you will be ultimately responsible for the overall financial stability of the business and will oversee all aspects of their financial operations. This includes developing accounting processes, systems and controls to support our clients existing business. In true hypergrowth style our client has experienced a massive influx in customers since March 2020, hence the need for more formal processes and procedures to be in place.
- The Financial Controller will lead from the front in terms of financial planning, implementation and management of finance processes and controls and will ideally come from a background working in banking or FinTech with a deep understanding of technology and financial services. Reporting directly into the CEO this is a chance for you to join a bank that actually works for the customer, a close-knit and collaborative team in a flat organisational structure where even the most junior person has a voice.
Requirements Main Responsibilities
- Oversee a system of robust internal controls over daily finance processes (including revenue & cost monitoring, merchant settlements, bank reconciliations, accounts receivable, accounts payable, daily cash movements, payroll and employee benefits)
- Manage the budgeting process and general long-term financial planning (including cash flow forecasting)
- Coordinate financial reporting efforts to ensure timely and accurate production of monthly financial results across all entities in multiple jurisdictions
- Liaise with external Auditors for annual financial audits and preparation of consolidated financial statements
- Build their treasury operations as they expand to new countries and add new currencies – this includes minimising risk from currency devaluations via hedging etc
- Support compliance team to ensure they conform with regulatory requirements
- Ensure all tax filings across all jurisdictions are met
- Recruit, manage and develop a strong performance-oriented finance organisation, capable of supporting their growth
- Build relationships with existing and prospective bank partners to optimise processing costs and financing facilities (including overdrafts)
- Ensure all statutory entities VAT/Corporate Tax/PAYE/WHT accounts are reconciled
- Automate existing & future finance team tools to minimise manual updating & inputs to dramatically increase team efficiency e.g. by converting existing Excel tools (where possible) to the best platform or system for the job at hand
Mandatory Requirements / Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in accounting or finance
- Qualified accountant (e.g. CFA, CPA etc).
- 8+ years of relevant experience in a senior accounting or finance position in technology or regulated company environment
- Mastery of US GAAP and IFRS accounting standards
- Experience managing finance and accounting functions in addition to collaborating with engineering teams
- Goal-oriented leader, capable of working with small teams in a fast-moving environment
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Experience in driving P&L performance improvements (e.g. closing gaps vs target) whilst holding others accountable (particularly peers and senior leadership)
- Experience in managing tax

- As their Director of Operations it is vital that you come with a customer first mentality and be prepared to roll up your sleeves, get in the trenches and implement structures with the overall aim to ensure that the business runs like a well oiled machine. In true hypergrowth style our client has experienced a massive influx in customers since March 2020, hence the need for more focus on service delivery and the process and the procedures behind it. You will be charged with driving operational excellence in
- multiple areas which range from managing key external partners, driving operational projects, resolving operational issues, participating in cross functional projects and supporting product development whilst developing streamlined operational processes, defined metrics and creating more innovative and efficient ways to support operation.
- The Director of Operations will be instrumental in taking control of and leading their operations team in Nigeria and will ideally come from a background working in banking or FinTech with a deep understanding of technology and financial services. Main Responsibilities
- Designing and implementing operational processes in line with what the business is looking to achieve (internally and externally) – establishing and implementation of the ‘right’ solutions
- Ensuring seamless customer service at all times, only the best service for the best product
- Define and maintain the overall SLA with merchants including VIP merchants and customer
- Develop and implement fraud prevention procedures and processes to ensure effective transactions monitoring(Implementing tools to monitor transactions, identify attempted fraud and reports)
- Design and lead the implementation of improvements to strategy, policies and procedures, holding the team accountable to adhere to those procedures
- Lead employees to encourage maximum performance and dedication
- Develop metrics and analytics for measuring business and project impact and efficiencies
- Write and submit reports to the CEO in all matters of importance
- Plan for and coordinate responses for situations of crisis
- Direct the preparation of short/long term goals based on the goals of the business
- Responsible for developing change management processes
- Identifying areas of operations/business that require technological intervention and co-coordinating with stakeholders for the implementation of technical solutions

Mandatory Requirements / Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; an MBA is preferred
- Previous experience in a senior level operations role within a fast-paced, high-growth environment, 5+ years of operations strategy, product operations, program or project management, business consulting, finance, or similar analytical roles that worked closely with product and engineering teams
- Holistic and proactive approach and proven experience in the development of processes
- An ability to rapidly adapt to change in a dynamic business environment
- Prior experience working with Customer Support data is desirable
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to gain respect and trust of all levels of team members

- As their Director of Compliance,you will develop a comprehensive regulatory compliance framework and be responsible for implementing and maintaining processes, systems and controls to ensure our client’s compliance across multiple jurisdictions, ultimately keeping them on the right side of the authorities. In this role, you will be operating in a fast-paced environment balancing between making on-boarding fun and effortless, helping create features that are super innovative, and at the same time making sure our client doesn’t run foul of the law.

Main Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and maintain a framework of policies and procedures for managing and mitigating operational and compliance risks, in line with laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions
- Design and implement relevant compliance processes including know your customer (KYC), anti-money laundering (AML), sanctions and combatting the financing of terrorism (CFT)
- Perform risk assessments to understand risk level, significance and scope to their operations
- Master a deep understanding of the rules and regulations governing the Nigerian market in which they operate, including monitoring any changes and developments
- Determine resource requirements for the compliance department and further build the compliance team
- Responsible for identification and assessment of the regulatory and conduct risks associated with the firm’s activities, including the development of new products and services
- Recommend system and control enhancements to ensure compliance and conduct risks remain within our clients appetite
- Supervise the monitoring and testing of regulatory compliance controls by performing second line reviews
- Build strong business partnerships with first line functions to advise and challenge on projects and initiatives across Bank activity with regard to regulatory and conduct risks
- Oversee the gathering of internal information to meet external regulatory reporting obligations
- Supervise the fulfilment of all record-keeping requirements
- Investigate irregularities and non-compliance issues
- Act as a point-of-contact for all employees on issues relating to money laundering, terrorist financing and receive reports on non-compliance with laws or company policies
- Compile regular reports on risk and compliance performance that can be shared with management or the Board Risk Committee, senior management and regulators where appropriate
- Support their product and market expansion initiatives by overseeing efforts to apply for new licenses when needed
- Ensure regular information dissemination and coordinate training across the company on compliance issues
- Review marketing materials, presentations and websites to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Oversee any internal and external audits or regulatory examinations
- Manage third party vendor risk reviews and vendor due diligence
- Collaborate with other departments to create a culture of compliance across the company
Mandatory Requirements / Qualifications
- 8+ years in a senior risk and compliance role
- A comprehensive and deep knowledge of relevant CBN guideline topics,regulations and expectations
- A clear understanding of financial services, financial technology, consumer lending and the banking business model
- Experience in banking/payments/financial services
- Ability to develop deep relationships with regulators (Central Banks or other regulatory bodies)
- Excellent sense of judgment – able to help steer the company to balance innovation and growth with regulatory compliance
- Previous experience as an auditor is useful (not essential)
- Ability to thrive, adapt and embrace change in rapidly-changing regulatory environment
