Role Purpose
- To provide support to the project team on Policy analysis, new Programme development, advocacy initiatives, strategy development and pro-poor governance agenda in the delivery of basic social services with focus on improving quality and access to Health Services, Nutrition, Food Security, Education and Child Protection.
Key Areas of Accountability
People Management & Leadership:
- Have regular meetings with local authorities to update on the progress of programmes
- Involve relevant authorities in the planning and implementation of programmes through consultation and joint visits
- In collaboration with other team members plan and carry out feedback meetings with authorities and beneficiaries
- Advocate for allocation of appropriate resources for the implementation of nutrition, FSL, Education activities in the LGAs
Programme Development and Quality:
- Support actively in the process of developing the organization’s short- and long-term governance and advocacy agendas. As directed, and particularly as it relates to exploring governance-related barriers to the elimination of exclusion and inequity, undertake research and analysis on possible new areas for SC programming.
- Prepare concept papers and other relevant documents, and initiate and describe project ideas and initiatives in accordance with the country strategy, the current contextual environment, the institutional capabilities of potential partners, resource availability and funding sources
- When working on specific high-priority initiatives, the Advocacy Coordinator will collaborate with senior staff and support the analysis process, developing policy positions and programme strategies, establishing new networks and partnerships, and managing coalitions.
- Assist colleagues to strengthen their knowledge and skills/capacities to incorporate governance frameworks, policy research, analysis and advocacy into their work.
- Contribute to development of advocacy strategies proposal writing and fund raising
Communication and Representation:
- Act as SC’s representative at local, national and international levels with local authorities, partners etc. as required, mainly in events relating to basic services (health/nutrition, FSL and education) programme. Represent SC Nigeria CO and communicate SC Nigeria CO’s public policy and advocacy positions as and when appropriate to institutions, government, international, national and local organisations as required.
- Support the coordination of the drafting and submission of strategic, planning and reporting documents, including but not limited to strategy documents, the operational plan and annual reports, and ad hoc requests for updates and reports from SC CO and Regional Office.
- Develop and maintain a professional network for governance issues within Nigeria and within SC globally.
- Dissemination of important information and messages
Programme Management:
- Support consultants involved in writing project designs, case studies or reports, facilitating training events, and conducting policy research, or other such contracted services.
- Support the implementation of the governance programme including quality control, negotiation with local partners, financial management, documentation, monitoring and evaluation, reporting etc
- Other – Other ad hoc tasks as requested by Line Manager.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Level of Education – First Degree, post graduate is an added advantage
- Specified Study Area – Social Science
- Desired Number of Years’ Experience – 3 years post NYSC (Advocacy, community mobilization and engagement, social services delivery with a focus on governance and enhanced voice and accountability)
- Language Requirements – English – Excellent and working knowledge of local language(s)
- Level of IT Expertise Required – Excellent
- knowledge in Nigeria governance especially the North East. Good knowledge of Borno governance structure and dynamics; knowledge of health systems and political terrains is an added advantage

Child Safeguarding
- Level 3 – The responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have occasional contact with or access to children or young people
Role Purpose
- The: SGBV Assistant is responsible for ensuring that quality psychosocial support services and case management for GBV survivors and other children at risk are provided to internally displaced persons under the age of 18. Build the staff capacity to provide direct meaningful support to GBV survivors, mentor, supervise and monitor team activities and ensure effective coordination and networking system establishment to the rest of child protection team.
- The SGBV assistant will be expected to support on child protection sectoral assessment, project planning and coordination with other actors of GBV clusters. In most circumstances, the post holder will be expected to mentor and / or build capacity of implementing partners on the field.
Key Areas of Accountability:
- With support from the lead GE Coordinator and / or other senior programme staff, develop monthly and quarterly plans and costed plans, contributing towards an overall thematic programme plan. From the strategy initiate programming in the following areas as appropriate:
- Support to the psychosocial (physical, social, emotional) wellbeing of children with GBV survivors and their families.
- Build volunteers’ capacity to provide direct and appropriate support services to GBV survivors
- Prevention and response to all forms of exploitation including harmful child labour and child trafficking
- With support from the Coordinator, supervise project implementation to ensure timely delivery of project activities (for example, monitoring against individual performance management work plans).
- With support from the lead Coordinator and / or other senior programme staff, prepare and review timely monthly reports submitted by partners and SCI Staff.
- Work with the MEAL plan to ensure links to reporting requirements where possible, refer the MEAL framework to build an evidence-base for child protection programming interventions including GBV survivors.
- With support from the CRM / Accountability Officer put in place accountability activities for your project, ensuring that feedback from children and their families is considered in project design.
- Ensure that the minimum standards of humanitarian relief are maintained in accordance with the Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Settings and the Sphere standard
- Ensure survivors of gender-based violence are timely identified and provided counselling and other appropriate response services.
- Ensure relevant referral forms are in place, implemented accordingly and coordinate monthly meetings including, parent’s forum and child protection committee
- Provide essential psychosocial first aid support to children and adults when needed and ensure partner staff are supervised regularly to ensure activities are carried out in line with minimum standard guidelines.
- Consistently update the referral pathway of project locations
Capacity Building:
- Provide capacity to implementing partners that have less CPiE experience
Representation & Advocacy & Organisational Learning:
- With support from the Lead Child Protection Coordinator and / or other senior programme staff, assist in advocacy activities that target decision-makers in-country.
- In collaboration with the Humanitarian Technical Unit and Child Protection team, feed in learning, experiences and evidence to relevant global advocacy objectives.
- Contribute to communications and media work as required.
General:
- Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
- Other ad hoc tasks as requested by Line Manager.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Criteria:
- University degree or equivalent in Social Work, Social Science, Development Studies or equivalent combination of relevant training and experience
- Minimum 1-year post NYSC work experience in GBV and child Protection work, supervision, community mobilisation and distributions and solid understanding of the actual Nigeria Emergency context.
- Proven ability to supervise a CP project with a holistic approach and integrated to child protection right
- Fluent in English
- Working knowledge of Hausa and/or Kanuri
- Computer literate
