The Eye Foundation Hospital was started in 1993 as a high tech specialist eye hospital capable of providing services comparable to those obtainable abroad. It is the first and foremost indigenous eye practice in the country that runs a group practice with many sub specialized ophthalmologists.

Position Statement
- This role is required to take responsibility for timely preparation and presentation of quarterly, bi-annual and annual of EFH financial reports. The Reporting Accountant shall take charge of budgetary and compliance controls, management of working capital and EFH’s obligations/engagements with third parties (i.e. vendors, customers and regulators)
- It shall supervise all financial reporting activities, establish and monitor timely and accurate reporting on liquidity and ensure excellent, efficient and timely service delivery to other departments within the Group.

Job Description
Controls & Compliance:
- The Reporting Accountant is directly responsible for all statutory compliances. This includes but not limited to compliance with statutory requirements on company income taxes, personal income taxes, value added taxes, withholding taxes, education and police trust taxes, pensions and National Social and Industrial Trust Funds (NSITF)
- The Financial Reporter files tax returns on behalf of their organizations.
- Review monthly bank reconciliation statement prepared by the EFH Accountant/Account Officers ensuring investigation and clearance of all reconciling items;
- Review of monthly reconciliation of revenue in Indigo to balances in QuickBooks / SAGE
- Review and approve schedules for monthly or annual tax filing.
- The Reporting Accountant also monitors budgets versus expenditures for any irregularities and reports these to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
- Preparation of the EFH annual budget in line with Budgetary guidelines and effective coordination and consolidation of EFH budget inputs / submissions.
- Review and approve analysis of account balances and schedules for the statutory and/or financial audit/reviews.
- Monitor expenditures against approved monthly/quarterly / annual budget and ensure expenditures are within approved limits and approved by responsible Budget Holder.
- Ensures adherence to agreed payment terms with foreign and local suppliers as stated in the SLA/Contract.
- Design and monitor control process to eliminate errors, misrepresentation and prevent fraud;
Payables & Treasury Operations:
- The Reporting Accountant maintains oversight of account payable activities by directing recognition of payables and initiating payment requests.
- Review Daily Bank Position Report for all EFH Bank accounts to confirm adequacy of bank balances to meet pending EFH payables and ensure adequacy of provisioning for unpresented cheques or critical operational needs.
- Review weekly schedule of all payables for approval and payment processing.
- Initiate weekly request for payment of payables with Group Treasury Operations.
- Approve postings of all payment vouchers on payment run received from Group Treasury Operations.
Financial Reporting:
- The Reporting Accountant ensures that the laid down month-end and year-end reporting procedures are adhered to
- He/She is directly responsible for preparation and presentation of periodic financial reports and performance evaluation reports. Ensure that all financial transactions are properly recorded, filed, and reported.
- Establish and monitor processes for preparation of group quarterly, bi-annual and annual financial reports;
- Effective coordination of the annual external audit exercise to deliver the Company’s Audited Financial Statements within the first quarter of succeeding financial year.
- Review fixed assets register / schedule for accuracy and completeness.
- Oversee monthly preparation, presentation and interpretation of debtors age analysis and report.
- Review and approve schedule of provision for doubtful debts and related provision journals for posting into the ERP system.
- Prepare cash flow statements and resolve outstanding balancing issues.
- Establish and monitor processes for management and reporting on the liquidity of the EFH and its component Hospitals.
- Maintain general ledger accounts for all assets, liabilities, income and expenses
- Review and approve journal entries for accruals, prepayments, depreciation, amortizations, errors and variances before posting into the ERP system.
- Ensure that the accounting department adheres to the standard accounting principles and procedures of the company.
- Perform the end of the month account closing activities and report performance for the month.
- Review financial reports to identify and explain variances.
- Present monthly performance report at Management Team Meetings
- Provide details and commentaries for all balances on trial balance with analysis of variances and movement in balances.
Revenue Assurance:
- Oversee daily reconciliation and tracing of customer payments via POS, Cash and Online Transfer on Indigo/Cashiers Daily Sales Report to lodgments/credits in Bank Statement.
Others:
- Manage relationships with financial service providers and monitor bank service fees and address quality issues;
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve Finance processes and improve efficiency.
- Prepare a Step-by-Step listing of your work process; Please note that this is a critical function without which you will not qualify for any form of leave;
- Assist in detailing or resolving any accounting issues or queries of own Team
- Follow documentation retention policy to maintain accounting files.
- Any other ad hoc duties as prescribed by the CFO or Head of Finance to assist in achieving Finance & Accounts Department and overall organizational objectives.
Relationship:
- Report to the Controller with timely and accurate financial information.
- Assist the Controller in presenting reports to senior executives, stakeholders, and board members.
- Participate in the financial strategy in accordance with the organizational objectives and direction given by the Controller.
Financial Reporter Skills:
- Financial reporting – responsible for ensuring that organizations issue financial statements, tax returns, and bank reports on time and according to internal and external guidelines, so strong and sound knowledge of accounting fundamentals and financial reporting skills are essential
- Budget analysis – this role requires a strong foundation in financial analysis, since he will monitor and assess the organization’s revenue and expenditures to prepare budgets, monitor and report on actual spend to approved budget.
- Financial forecasting – effective projection and forecasting skills are also vital in this role, especially when developing budgets and providing overall financial direction to the organization
- Team coordination – direct the activities of EFH accounting departments, constantly keep in touch with other members of the Group Finance Function and work with multiple departments throughout the organization to gather and prepare information, so effective team coordination is key
- Communication skills – should be strong written and verbal communication, able to work with accounts staff, executive leadership, regulatory authorities and external banking and audit professionals.
- Problem-solving skills – should be able to identify issues before or as the arise, come up with solutions, implement these solutions, and evaluate their effectiveness
- Compliance – He/she must be compliance-oriented
- Accounting Software – must be proficient in the use of accounting software
- Leadership – evidence of a leadership track record is an added advantage.
Qualifications
- A Degree in Accounting, Sciences, or Social Sciences.
- Minimum of 8 years post professional qualification – ACCA OR ACA.
- Candidate must have a minimum of 10 years post qualification experience.
Computer Savvy Skills:
- Proficient use of Microsoft office {Word, Excel and PowerPoint}
- Proficient use of Accounting and ERP software.
- Proficient in SAGE accounting software is an added advantage.
