The U.S. Mission to Nigeria comprises of the Embassy in Abuja, FCT, and the Consulate General in Lagos. U.S. Consulate General Lagos is the Mission’s representative to the Nigerian people in the southern region.

Duties
Basic Function:

  • The incumbent serves as a boat deckhand.
  • S/he works with Boat Pilots to maintain boats, and other boats equipment.
  • S/he secures boat at dock.
  • The incumbent communicates with passengers, ensuring compliance with safety procedures during boat operations.
  • S/he assists with docking, anchoring maneuvers: handling lines, gangways, anchors, and deck watch.
  • These watchers include security, maintenance, and passenger assistance duties.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements
Experience:

  • Two (2) years experience in boat safety operations is required.

Job Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of boat and engine manuals, basic cleaning and maintenance, as well as knowledge of Lagos environment, Lagoon, Creeks, and near off-shore waters is required.

Education Requirements:

  • Completion of Primary School is required.

Evaluations:

  • This may be tested. Please specify your level of proficiency in the language listed.

Language:

  • Limited Knowledge speaking/writing/reading English is required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have good communication skills, and abilities in boat safety operations, refueling, and docking assistance procedures.
  • Must be a good swimmer, and able to secure passengers during emergency.
  • Must be familiar with Word, Internet, and e-mail.
  • Must be able to lift 30lbs.

Agency Benefits:

  • The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
  • For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.
