Job Title: Accounting & Finance Officer

Primary Function / Purpose

  • The Accounting and Finance Officer will provide support services to the IFES-Nigeria field office.

Job Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyze office financial activities to ensure compliance with accounting and legal requirements.
  • Review and maintain financial records.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting, tax laws and other statutory deductions.
  • Enter transactions into the accounting system.
  • Prepare payment vouchers and obtain approval.
  • Maintain Petty Cash account and disbursement log.
  • Manage banking transactions.
  • Assist in preparing monthly financial reports.
  • Periodic bank/account reconciliation.
  • Assist in EMB training on financial management.
  • Provide guidance on proper financial management, documentation and office financial policies and procedures to program and administrative staff.
  • Track advance payments to ensure clearing of all advances.
  • Review Travel Expense Reports (TER) and other payment requests for approval.
  • Maintain personnel files with timesheet, severance and vacation information.
  • Prepare bi-weekly payroll for IFES Nigeria staff.
  • Liaise with Banks and obtain monthly bank statements and/or when is needed.
  • Prepare and reimburse event participants.
  • Reconciliation of event expenses.
  • Assist in evaluating sub-grant proposals and budgets.
  • Review sub-grantee financial reports to ensure compliance with terms of sub-grant and liaising with sub-grantee(s) where and when necessary.
  • Assist in providing training as needed to sub-grantee(s) on IFES and USAID financial policies, procedures and regulations.

Position Requirements
Education:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree[BK1] [CB2] in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or another relevant degree is required

Experience & Skills:

  • Minimum of 4 years experience in finance and/or accounting.
  • Experience with USAID financial policies and procedures is required; experience with other donor policies and procedures is preferred.
  • High levels of proficiency with Quickbooks and other accounting software
  • The ability to remain organized while handling multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Supervisory experience is desired
  • Ability to complete tasks independently and efficiently
  • Must value operating in a collaborative and cooperative environment.
  • Ability to show initiative, good judgment, and resourcefulness.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Language Skills:

  • Proficiency in the English language required.

Travel:

  • Travel may be required.
