The Delta State Polytechnic, established by the Delta State Polytechnic Ogwashi-Uku Law, 2002, is one of the three polytechnics in Delta State, Nigeria, Located in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, Nigeria. The polytechnic offers National Diplomas and Higher National Diplomas in Art and Design (Fashion Design and Clothing Technology, and General Art), Business (Accountancy, Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Mass Communication, Office Technology Management and Production Operations Management), Engineering (Agriculture and Bio-environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Foundry Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering and Welding and Fabrication) and Applied Sciences (Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics and Hospitality and Tourism Management).

Overview
By virtue of the Revised Schemes of Service for NBTE, Polytechnics and other similar Tertiary Institutions of 2013, the Director of Works & Estate is a Senior Management Officer of the Polytechnic and he/she is responsible to the Rector for:

  • Exercising control in the Department formulating divisional strategies to achieve the institutional goals:
  • Planning and controlling the technical activities of the Works & Estate Services of the Polytechnic:
  • Advising the Rector on the acquisition, operation and maintenance of all Polytechnic assets as the case may be.
  • Preparing the Department’s budget and exercising budgetary controls:
  • Keeping an inventory of all vehicles, their maintenance, security and up-keep:
  • Ensuring cordial relationship between the Polytechnic and Contractors, Consultants, etc.; .
  • Furthermore, the candidate must be in good health;
  • Performing other duties as may be assigned by the Rector.

The Person

  • Applicants for the post of the Polytechnic Director of Works & Estate must be candidates with vision, proven professional distinction managerial ability, integrity and transparency in private and public life, who should be able to provide the Management and Council of the Polytechnic with requisite professional skills/competence and appropriate advice on the administration of the Polytechnic Works & Estate Services Department.

Qualifications and Experience
The Candidate must possess a B.Sc Degree in Civil Engineering, Building, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Electronics Engineering or any other relevant Degree from a recognized Institution with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division plus NYSC Discharge Certificate or Evidence of Exemption, SSCE / NECO / WASC / GCE OL Credit in 5 subjects including Mathematics and English Language subjects is compulsory:

  • The possession of Post-graduate Degree will be an added advantage:
  • The Candidate must possess professionally recognized Certificate with current practicing license as well as not less than twenty (20) years post qualification experience.
  • In addition, the Candidates must have at least ten (10) years of relevant experience in a Senior Management position:
  • Candidate must be registered with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering (COREN) or Quantity Surveying Regulation Board of Nigeria (QSRBN) or Council of Registered Builder of Nigeria (CORBON). or any other related discipline and must be computer literate with a working knowledge of relevant packages.
  • The successful candidate shall hold office for a period of five (5) years of one tenure, from the date of appointment by the Governing Council of the Polytechnic, and should not be more than fifty-five (55) years old at the point of appointment.
