Facilities are centers with different expensive equipment needed to grow small businesses & trades
The commitment of the Buhari Administration to MSMES birthed the encompassing idea of supporting MSMEs by providing at least one Shared Facility in every State of the Federation.
What is a shared facility?
A shared facility is a place where the government provides various equipment and machines for a particular type of trade. These are usually very expensive industrial-type machines and equipment. They are usually too expensive for any small business to buy.
The government invests in buying the equipment and the facility is located in an area where there is a cluster of that trade or business or a place where there are many people in the particular trade or business.
A Few days ago, VP Osinbajo commissioned a one-stop garment production center, one out of the ten (10) Shared Facility Scheme for MSMEs, for the end-to-end production of various types of clothing items in Orlu, Imo state.
The idea of this FG shared facility, is that such people can then have access to the use of the machines and equipment in that facility. In this way, government assists many people involved in the same trade with machines and equipment that they would not have been able to buy themselves.
In 2021 alone, work commenced on the development of 10 of these Shared Facilities across various states to compliment those previously commissioned in Anambra, Benue, and the Lagos States. The 4th one was commissioned in Orlu, Imo state a few days ago.
1) The Benue State Shared Facility is a 200,000-capacity yam storage facility, at the Zaki Biam International Yam Market, the largest Yam market in Africa.
2) The Lagos State Shared Facility is the Eko MSME Fashion Hub 1 housing 380 tailors and fashion designers daily.
3) The Anambra State Facility is a shoe-making facility with industrial equipment and machines within close proximity of the Anambra shoe-makers cluster.
4) The Edo state facility is a woodwork carpentry and cabinet-making facility to be commissioned this Friday.
The FG remains focused on providing every Nigerian with a good-paying source of livelihood. – This means providing a favorable, safe and secure environment to do business.
