Research and Policy Specialist at Spaces for Change (S4C)

Spaces for Change (S4C) is a non-profit organization working to infuse human rights into social and economic governance processes in Nigeria. Through digital crowd-sourcing, research, policy analysis, advocacy, youth engagement, public interest litigation and community action, we aim to increase the participation of Nigerian youth, women and communities in the development of social and economic policy, and also help public authorities and corporate entities to put a human rights approach at the heart of their decision-making.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Research and Policy Specialist

Location: Lagos

Job Description

  • Monitor policy cycles across sectors, identifying opportunities for policy and legislative engagement on key issues affecting urban governance, environmental justice, gender, human rights and civic space.
  • Track and analyse policy developments, including legislation and regulations related to the organisation’s thematic/focal areas and priorities ensuring that empirical information generated over time is used to inform public advocacy, litigation, campaigns, blog posts and talking points.
  • Research and communicate trends on relevant policy developments, social justice and topical issues around the organisation’s thematic priorities.
  • Consulting with internal and external stakeholders to determine needs and ensure inclusion of relevant factors using an effective combination of advocacy, education, community organising, policy development, and coalition leadership.
  • Assist in resource mobilisation initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Law, Statistics, International Development, Public Administration or related fields.
  • Specialised experience in similar roles may be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree.
  • Very strong writing and public speaking skills.
  • Demonstrable evidence of research capabilities.
  • Minimum of five (5) years working experience.
