Livelihood Advisor at Centre for Community Development and Research Network (CCDRN)

Centre for Community Development and Research Network (CCDRN) is a registered national Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) with its head office in Kaduna. CCDRN partners with communities, philanthropists, government, and donors to provide sustainable community development services in the areas of conflict resolution, peace-building, economic empowerment, agriculture, health, Nutrition, education as well as governance.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Livelihood Advisor

Location: Kaduna

Job Summary

  • The Livelihood Advisor will lead in the design and implementation of all livelihood projects through concept developments, supervision of livelihood project teams, and liaison with the organization’s management and donors on deliverables and reporting.
  • This is a national position to be based in the CCDRN’s Head Office, Kaduna with frequent travels to project locations across Northern Nigerian states.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead in conducting assessments of livelihoods needs of the targeted communities using participatory tools
  • Lead in the development of concepts and designing integrated livelihood interventions that are climate-smart, nutrition-sensitive and sustainable
  • Develop a strategy for livelihood projects and priorities based on a thorough understanding of needs and contexts
  • Develop manuals for training of beneficiaries and staff on different aspects of livelihood activities
  • identify and develop new needs/growth areas and livelihood opportunities across value chain activities in the targeted communities
  • Facilitate learning, adaptation, and knowledge management on livelihood project activities
  • In collaboration with MEAL Advisor, design suitable monitoring systems (including tools) for all livelihood projects and superintend its adoption by the field-based team members
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of livelihood interventions and recommend effective ways of achieving better results
  • Participate in technical and sectoral partner meetings
  • Conduct regular field visits to ensure technical oversight and support, identify needs, and ensure quality programming
  • Liaise with field-based livelihood project teams to produce quality reports on livelihood project activities that are timely and meet institutional and donor requirements
  • Supervise project leads working on different livelihood projects across project locations
  • Any other duty to be assigned.

Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Social Protection or related fields.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in livelihood, agribusiness, jobs creation in the private sector or non-governmental organizations
  • Knowledge of principal agric value chain activities, especially production and post-harvest management.

Relevant Skills:

  • Good written communication skills, including demonstrated ability to write required documents in a clear, concise, well-organized manner
  • Ability to carry out research and excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent knowledge of innovative livelihood practices pertaining to climate-smart, nutrition-sensitive, post-harvest management, etc
  • Familiarity with different livelihood transfer modalities and their workability in the conflict-affected communities
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to listen and help others
  • Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail)
  • Proven ability to manage deadlines, work independently with minimal supervision, submit high-quality work plans, prioritize workload, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • A good relationship with national and state levels agricultural stakeholders such as research institutes, Agricultural Development Projects, Inputs suppliers, off-takers, and input suppliers
  • Ability to work independently, but also coordinate effectively as part of a team.
  • Fluent in English language.
