Christian Aid works in more than 30 countries and has been operating in Nigeria since 2003. The Nigeria Country programme focuses on Community Health and HIV, Accountable Governance including humanitarian response and Gender.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Communication Volunteer

Locations: Abuja and Maiduguri, Borno
Type of Contract: Volunteer
Contracted Hours: 15 – 20
Contract Length: 6 Months

About the Role

  • The Programme Communications volunteer will provide hands-on support to deliver on the communications strategy for specific projects and country-level communications.

Task Description

  • Produce programme communication materials such as reports, infosheets, awareness raising materials, project updates e.t.c.
  • Provide relevant strategic and development communication/SBCC support to assigned projects in order to contribute to achieving programme objectives
  • Promote the visibility of assigned projects, and Christian Aid as a whole through the identification, collation and dissemination (through appropriate channels) of successes, project activities, learning, best practices to internal and external audiences
  • Draft articles and other written materials for use on all internal and external digital platforms, including traditional media platforms.
  • Maintain a schedule for the dissemination of content across various channels
  • Collate and disseminate monthly workstream update to promote information flow within the Christian Aid Nigeria team.
  • Provide relevant communications support during workshops, trainings and events.
  • Provide logistics and administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of the Communications team and the implementation of the Country Programme’s Communications strategy.
  • Facilitate media engagements for projects and at Country level as required.
  • Conduct periodic media mapping to identify relevant media organisations and develop plan for maintaining and building relationships.
  • Organize and maintain a database of communications materials and stakeholders.

About the Individual

  • The successful individual must have a keen interest in development communication, therefore being able to support projects across all Christian Aid’s programme areas.
  • The individual must be a self-starter and have the ability to work effectively under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.

Desired Skills:

  • Excellent written communication skills
  • An eye for design and graphics
  • Basic photography skills
  • Attention to details and ability to organise work in an efficient manner
  • Willingness to explore and learn new ways of working, given the fluid nature of the job.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office suite, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Good storytelling skills
  • Knowledge of development communication to promote participation and engagement of target audiences
  • Ability to use movie and animation making software is an added advantage
  • Knowledge of international development is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge or experience working with media is desired.

Other Information / Benefits

  • Volunteers will be required to work five days a week during Christian Aid’s official work hours and paid a stipend at a daily rate.
  • Where applicable, volunteers will be prioritised to accompany staff on trips to the field to deepen knowledge of programmes.
  • Volunteers will be prioritised to attend relevant trainings, meetings and workshops for the opportunity to build their capacity.
