Project Description
- The Maximizing Options to Advance Informed Choice for HIV Prevention (MOSAIC) project is a five-year global project funded by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the U.S.
- Agency for International Development (USAID) to help women prevent HIV by accelerating introduction and scale-up of new and emerging biomedical prevention products.
- MOSAIC works globally and across multiple countries in sub-Saharan Africa to implement user-centered research and research translation efforts to identify, understand, and remove barriers to new product introduction, access, and use; coordinate and provide technical assistance to global, national, and subnational stakeholders to expedite product launch and scale-up; and strengthen the capacity of a wide range of local partners to perform essential functions that support the introduction of HIV prevention products.
Job Summary
- The ATO, Gender Integration and Youth Engagement will support the integration of a youth and gender-focused user-centered approach and promotion of youth and gender voices leading design, implementation, and evaluation of all activities related to the introduction of new biomedical prevention products. This position will report to the Project Director.
- The position is based in Nigeria and the successful candidate will be sitting at the FHI 360 office or remotely as determined by office policy.
Accountabilities (Duties and Responsibilities)
- Support creation of a national youth and gender representation forum and coordinate regular meetings to discuss new HIV prevention products
- Support identification of key gender and youth stakeholders, institutions, and individuals to engage in product introduction efforts in and establish/maintain functional professional relationships with key stakeholders and institutions to facilitate research utilization (RU)/dissemination and biomedical HIV prevention scale up efforts amongst AGYW
- Support focus-group-discussions with youth and gender groups to understand perceptions and ideas on HIV prevention, including integration of messages on PrEP into existing digital platforms
- Assist with trainings of health care providers in the CATALYST sites with a focus on youth-friendly services
- Support technical assistance in demand creation activities and youth events when possible and ensure integration of HIV prevention information in community engagements
- Participate in all adolescent health Technical Working Group (TWG) meetings at the Ministry of Health (MoH) and provide updates and respond to any arising questions
- Work closely with MOSAIC Uganda management and global team and assist with production of high-quality, audience-appropriate print and digital content, including peer-reviewed publications, blog posts, technical briefs, reports and fact sheets, conference abstracts and posters, and training materials and other technical tools
- Assist with monitoring, documentation and sharing of project accomplishments, most significant change stories on gender and youth engagement, challenges, and lessons learned among internal and external partners for policy dialogue, advocacy, and future programming
- Support development and maintenance of a country level tracker for all gender and youth integration activities
- Support capacity building of project staff, partners, community members and government officials to promote gender equality and youth engagement
- Serve as platform for cross-country learning among young people
- Support the development of workplans and reports.
Standard Requirements – Education / Experience
- Degree or Higher National Diploma in Gender Studies, Pharmacy, Public Health, Sociology, or a related field; Bachelor’s degree is preferred
- 1 – 3 years of relevant experience supporting projects and or relevant technical area
- Prior experience, including volunteer experience, participation in youth and adolescent engagement, working with civil society organizations supporting community/youth/gender/HIV-related structures and projects preferred.
Applied Knowledge, Attributes & Skills:
- Good communication and writing skills
- Ability to speak and write fluently in English
- Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds. Ability to communicate effectively with community members, community leaders, support staff, health care workers, and Ministry of Health staff
- Basic computer literacy and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Be adaptable, approachable, empathetic, and willing to take initiative
- Knowledge on HIV prevention, care, and treatment is an advantage
- Should be self-starter, creative, technologically savvy, passionate hardworking, and self- motivated
- Evidence of good analytical and problem-solving skills and familiarity with EMRs
- Evidence of good presentation/facilitation skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills and successful teamwork
- Experience developing and maintaining productive working relations with stakeholders including the Ministry of Health
