Responsibilities
- We currently have a great opportunity for an experienced Tax Manager to join the team in Lagos, Nigeria.
- The Tax Manager has overall responsibility for compliance and tax planning and implementation in the geographic area. Responsibilities include federal and local income, property, sales and employment taxes.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Reviews and files fiscal accounts, tax returns and tax payments in compliance with local regulations.
- Reviews inter-company agreements and practices.
- Audit internal compliance with tax regulations.
- Reviews Weatherford tax reports and define practice for recording tax provisions in accordance with policy.
- Recommends and implements tax plans.
- Provides liaison for and monitors local tax audits.
- Understands, reviews, implements, complies and assists in the development of Sarbane Oxley requirements as defined in the risk control matrix.
- May participate in centralised recruitment events eg career fairs, first/second interviews, etc.
- Complies with applicable company policies, including Personnel, Quality System and Health Safety and Environment standards and procedures.
- Reviews employee relating withholdings and tax related issues.
- Raises awareness of corporate structure and tax strategy.
- Develops strategy and implement plans to optimise company’s future tax position.
- Supports operations in the planning process, setting up new operations and in the reviewing of client bids and client contracts.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess an MBA, Finance or Accounting degree or Tax Accounting / Law Degree is essential.
- Must have 3-7 years multi-state sales and use tax experience.
- Prefer 3-6 years of general tax experience with a Big 4, large regional public accounting firm, government tax agencies, or corporate tax department is preferred.
- Experience with utilizing tax research platforms preferred (i.e. CCH, RIA Checkpoint or comparable).
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate conclusions and recommendations.
- Solid teamwork ethic and excellent interpersonal skills for interacting with peers and management at various levels.
- Ability to perform multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a timely manner. Individual required to be extremely well organized and detail oriented.
- Should be able to work and interact with all levels of personnel.
- Experience using accounting software such as JD Edwards, SAP, Oracle preferred.
- Experience using JDE and Vertex (or similar) is highly preferred.
- Strong analytical and technical skills in interpreting and applying tax laws to complex tax matters preferred.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access.
