The University of Johannesburg (UJ) in collaboration with the Gauteng City Region Academy (GCRA), an entity of the Gauteng Department of Education plans to recruit 800 youth from the Gauteng Province to pilot the Building Inspector Programme.

Information about the programme
The Building Inspector Programme is a three-year technical skill and entrepreneurship training programme with partnerships with host employers, product specialist trainers and business opportunities on the supply of building materials and maintenance work.
By enrolling in this programme:
- You may qualify as a Building Inspector and Assessor with the University of Johannesburg and get professionally registered with the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP).
- Building inspectors approve building plans and inspect workmanship during construction. They can assess buildings as well as post-construction. They protect housing consumers against shoddy workmanship.
- As a building inspector, you can be employed by a municipality, or private sector or be a Professional Building Inspector Consultant.
- This programme also targets candidates who are interested in becoming registered Artisans specializing as building materials experts including maintenance work contractors.
