Old School Ties (O.S.T.) was founded in September 2016, and stems from its initiator’s growing awareness of the frustration in South Africa of (1) teaching staff wanting to advance their careers but remaining largely oblivious to the opportunities at schools elsewhere, and (2) head teachers needing to replace staff, but having to rely either on hugely expensive print media, inefficient digital forums and/or word-of-mouth.

O.S.T. brings together for the first time thousands of aspiring employees and employers in one convenient digital marketplace.

Why Old School Ties

The staff at Old School Ties (O.S.T.) recognise the frustrations felt by teachers in South Africa wanting to advance their careers or secure a better future for themselves and their families.

Teachers (and other school staff) generally remain unaware of the opportunities at schools elsewhere – and tools like the infrequent Government Gazettes and motley websites that attempt to act as meeting places for employees and employers are unsatisfactory.

On the other hand, head teachers needing to replace staff also face difficulties – especially at the end of the academic year (when resignations abound) and at the start of the new year (when vacancies have to be filled). Using print media is prohibitively expensive when budgets are tight, and neither the inefficient digital forums that exist nor word-of-mouth offer much comfort.
