Job Description

  • The GIS Specialist position supports the drive to acquire capability for large scale management and operation of fibre outside and inside plant infrastructure assets through its life cycle of producing both operational and strategic plans and designs, deployment, service provisioning, maintenance and general administration.
  • The role will primarily manage specific GIS applications and infrastructure that has been acquired and deployed so that value can continually be derived to support competitive business objectives.
  • Develop deep insights into geospatial relationships and dependencies in order to proactively meet customer needs.

Deliverables
Expected Key Results
Effective GIS operations:

  • Creates, tests and enhances GIS operations; develops and administers web based applications.
  • Provides technical support for the implementation and operation of GIS projects
  • Operates and maintains GIS software and web-based applications.
  • Installs and tests GIS web software and maintains GIS web server.
  • Prepares GIS datasets, maps and database reports.

GIS Modeling & Analysis:

  • Evaluates user requirements for GIS; identifies and implements applications
  • Prepares GIS databases, maps, database reports and specialized queries in support of various projects
  • Performs GIS analysis, modeling and reporting to support decision making
  • Generates, maintains and disseminates GIS layers
  • Designs GIS enterprise database and enforces data standards.

GIS Working Knowledge Dissemination:

  • Conducts or coordinates end-user training
  • Trains users on new and existing QGIS application, modules and products
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with associates and customers.

Incisive GIS-Based Reporting:

  • Writes and maintains reports; programs database reports, forms and queries
  • Prepares written and oral presentations

Demonstrate (Key competencies)
Educational Qualifications & Functional Skills:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Geoinformatics, Geography, Surveying, Engineering or related field (2.2/Upper Credit Minimum)
  • Extensive knowledge and ability to perform a diverse array of complex GIS related work
  • Experience with mapping tools such as QGIS and Carto
  • Proficiency with database programming languages such as SQL, R and Python
  • Experience with GPS measuring tools
  • Outstanding quantitative skill set, attention to detail and good problem-solving skills

Job Title: NMS Engineer

Location: Lagos

Purpose of the Job (Brief)

  • To monitor the network and provide all required first level support to core network infrastructure issues. This includes liaising with ipNX service Providers, and ensuring escalations are carried out in line with the defined guidelines.

  • This section requires the top five accountabilities that role is to deliver own. Written in outcome language, this is not a listing of tasks but a grouping of tasks to determine outcomes required from the tasks.

Expected Key Results (Detailed KPIs)
Network Monitoring:

  • Ensure smooth running of all network monitoring systems: both for Core network nodes and transmission network.

Network Operations:

  • Run on 24*7*365 network monitoring operation.
  • Ensure Core network and Customer links Monitoring applications are functioning properly: Solarwinds, Nagios, Nagviz, SAM, VNQM etc.
  • Engagement of various Colo/POPs sites manager in ensuring smooth running of the sites and our equipment there in. Escalating issues related to cooling, voltage instability, shelter leakages etc.

Escalation:

  • Ensure continuous engagement of vendors and OEMs on service related issues.

Network Optimization:

  • Proactively escalate issues to the network infrastructure team for capacity planning and network optimization

Access Management:

  • Managing access request for ipNX Operation team visit to POPs/Colo sites, arranging joint visits to sites

Reporting:

  • Generate and compile regular report/availability for each of the Colo sites and service Providers.

Educational Qualifications & Functional Skills:

Functional Skills:
Monitoring & Troubleshooting and Alerting:

  • Proactive monitoring of the status and performance of network infrastructure and services across the regions.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving first level network outages on the network.
  • Perform second level Escalation on network outages or faults to responsible parties.
  • Proactive monitoring of the FTTH network (OLT outages, PON port outages, link outages, etc.) for all faults and outages.
  • Proactive monitoring of hardware status of equipment (cooling, power, security, etc.) running on the network and escalating to responsible parties in the event of a fault.
  • Proactive monitoring of network trends and alert for network optimization and planning.
  • Proactive monitoring services (AAA servers, freeside, access control servers, etc.) supporting the network and escalating in the event of any outages.

Client and Third-party Interaction:

  • Processing access into third party sites on the network for visiting engineers.
  • Providing remote support to field engineers during network outages.
  • Engaging third-party providers (collocation, leased-lines, etc) on any faults and follow-up till outages are resolved.
  • Raising tickets for faults on the network for tracking and effective escalation
  • Handling ticket escalations from customers and providing necessary support and updates.

Documentation:

  • Generate daily, Weekly and Monthly reports on all network outages, network performance and service availability for third party providers on the network.

Work Experience:

  • At least 2 years in telecommunications industry
  • Familiarity with Linux environment.
  • Fair Idea of SNMP monitoring.

Job Title: OSP Supervisor

Location: Lagos

Description 

  • The Outside Plant (OSP) Supervisor oversees the maintenance of ipNX fiber optic & civil work activities on the outside plant network. The OSP Supervisor will be involved in the day-to-day maintenance and management of the outside plant, taking into consideration Customer and Local Authority organizations in the maintenance of the fiber outside plant. The role is expected to involve a significant element of on-site attendance.

Key Activities:

  • Corporate & Retail/FOS Incident Management.
  • Corporate Customers: Restore service failures within 3 hours of its occurrence- Implementation and integration of new projects and ensure all open incident tickets are closed within this time frame.
  • Retail Customers: Restore service failures within 12 hours of its occurrence.
  • Incident Management Communication: Provide prompt feedback for input into the OTRS application with information relating to activities being carried out to resolve customer service incidents.
  • Preventive Maintenance
  • Proactively identify, plan and execute preventive maintenance action on the fibre network.
  • Provide operational data for FTTH Network Monitoring and analysis work that feeds into the improvement of fibre break-fix MTTR.
  • Audit and collate information for the fiber outside plant network. Prepare the as-maintained documents within region/sub-region managed for the O &M Unit.
  • Report Management
  • Ensure weekly support status reports are done and submitted timely for review.
  • FOS Activation
  • Activate FOS Customer requests within 3 days of sign up.
  • Sign-off the Customer Feedback Form, prepare and submit post-activation report.

Demonstrate (Key competencies)
Educational Qualifications & Functional Skills:
Academic:

  • University Degree in Telecoms, Engineering or Applied Sciences.

Functional Skills:

  • Proven track records of maintenance and management of metro and/or long-distance fibre optic infrastructure.
  • Sound knowledge of telecom industry best practices, norms and technical requirements with regard to fibre & civil work maintenance.
  • FTTx and/or P2P fibre deployment and maintenance experience are distinct advantages i.e. fibre termination using fusion splice machines, testing & analyzing fibre links with OTDR and Light Source/Power Meters (LSPM), identifying fibre cores with VFLs.
  • Capable of understanding fibre network architectures, designs & splice plans.
  • An inherent culture of documenting concise and accurate “As-Is” status of network elements and splice configuration, in a consistent manner.
  • Familiarity with the requirements of Health & Safety legislation in Nigeria.
  • Experience in civil works supervision & quality control.
  • Experience in processing ROW License with Local Authorities/State Regulatory Agencies.
  • User experience for Microsoft Office Tools including a good working knowledge of MicrosoftProject.
  • User experience for Visio/AutoCAD/GIS tools is desired.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to solve complex problems in the shortest available time using honed analytical skills.

Work Experience:

  • At least 2 years in the telecommunications industry, with experience in Fiber network deployments. and outside plant maintenance.
  • Specific Knowledge of Civil Works planning applications with Nigerian Local Authorities.
