We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Local Security Assistant

Context

  • Working under the direct supervision of the Head of Office, Lagos, and the technical supervision of the Field Security Officer and in close collaboration with Project Officer in Benin City, the successful candidate will assist on all management matters related to staff and property in IOM Benin city.

Core Functions / Responsibilities

  • Perform Under the direct supervision of the Field Security Officer, assist in the development and implementation of security plans, arrangements and activities related to the Benin City Sub-Offices including Access control and contingency plans.
  • Support the FSO in all tactical, operational and strategic security matters that impact IOM’s staff safety and IOM’s operations in Benin City.
  • Ensure that security administration activities (travel clearances, UNDSS trip profiles, POL, staff lists, warden list staff compliancy status etc.) are properly maintained, shared with necessary staff and archived for future access when required, establish UN ID cards processing for IOM regular staff in coordination with IOM HR and Security Staff in Abuja.
  • Undertake all radio technician responsibilities, update call sign lists, and maintain overall operability and maintenance of communications systems as applicable.
  • Efficiently monitor the local security situation and reports significant events/incidents in a timely manner to the appropriate management/staff using prescribed reporting forms and modalities.
  • Ensure the reports are disseminated in a timely manner to the appropriate IOM staff and offices.
  • Gather, verify and share security information related to IOM operation, staff and assets with security staff unit or as instructed by the FSO.
  • Coordinate all road mission’s security clearances, liaison with Local forces, draft all required letters to facilitate the missions in coordination with HosO and FSO and Track travel movement of all IOM personnel (international and national).
  • Maintain good relationship/liaison and coordination with UNDSS and other local security stakeholders at the appropriate level.
  • Monitor the contracted security guards and ensures that posts are always manned through the guard field supervisor, conduct refresher training to all private guards as needed as well.
  • Assist briefing IOM field staff members including IOM temporary staff, visitors and missions in in accordance with the security risk level and the SRMM in place.
  • Maintain an inventory of all security assets including fire equipment within the building with the corresponding expiry date and liaise with the logistics team on maintenance and replenishment/ repair/ replacement.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience
Education:

  • University Degree or equivalent in Social Science, Computer Science and Law Enforcement Academy.

Experience:

  • Minimum three (3) years experience with first degree in related field; preferably relevant professional experience with the security in UN, INGO or NGO.
  • Experience in the armed/police forces or other security services is an added advantage.
  • Good political and social knowledge of the region.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Good knowledge of information technology and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and SharePoint.
  • The ability to work in a multi-cultural environment with others with diverse professional backgrounds is required.
  • Training in emergency and disaster response is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge and the use of UN security Equipment and assets including UN VHF/HF radio system.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English (oral and written) required, working knowledge of the local language.

Skills:

  • Computer literacy required: MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Good communication skills and proven ability to work in a team.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work effectively with different levels within and outside the organization and with colleagues from varied cultural and professional backgrounds.
