Adjunct Faculty – English Language at the Nigerian University of Technology and Management (NUTM)

Job Title: Adjunct Faculty – English Language

Location: Lagos

Role Overview

  • NUTM invites applications from highly qualified and dedicated individuals to join our faculty as Adjunct Faculty in English.
  • The successful candidate will be passionate about teaching and have a deep understanding of English language and linguistics.
  • Responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate courses in English language, guiding students in developing language proficiency, and promoting effective communication skills. This position is part-time and offers flexibility in scheduling.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Course Development and Instruction

  • Teach undergraduate courses in English Language, including language acquisition, phonetics, grammar, composition and communication skills.
  • Design and implement effective lesson plans, learning activities, and assessments that align with the university’s curriculum and learning outcomes.
  • Foster an interactive and engaging learning environment to enhance student’s language proficiency and critical thinking skills.
  • Develop and update course materials, including textbooks, reading materials, and digital resources.
  • Support students in developing effective writing skills, including academic, business, and creative writing.
  • Utilize technology and multimedia resources to enhance language learning and classroom engagement.
  • Mentorship and student evaluation
  • Provide constructive feedback on student assignments, papers, and oral presentations to facilitate their linguistic development.

Research and Departmental Duties:

  • Stay informed about current research and advancements in the field of English language teaching and linguistics.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, faculty development activities, and university committees as required.

Preferred Candidate

  • A Master’s Degree in English Language, Linguistics, or a related field is required. A doctoral degree is preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise and professional experience in English language teaching.
  • Experience in teaching English as a second language (ESL) or English as a foreign language (EFL) is highly desirable.
  • Strong command of English grammar, vocabulary, and phonetics.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students from diverse linguistic backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with language learning technologies and software.
  • Ability to design and implement innovative teaching strategies to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
  • Commitment to promoting language proficiency, effective communication skills, and intercultural competence.
  • Research experience and publications in the field of English language teaching or linguistics would be an advantage.
