Job Title: Head of Credit Risk

Location: Yaba, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Mission

  • The Credit Risk Manager is a senior position responsible for overseeing and managing the credit risk function. He will oversee the protection of the Bank against excessive credit-related losses, ensuring that lending activities remain both profitable and compliant with regulatory standards, while effectively mitigating credit risk.

Responsibilities

  • Risk Assessment: Analyzing and evaluating the creditworthiness of borrowers, assessing their ability to repay loans or credit lines.
  • Policy Development: Establishing and implementing credit policies and procedures to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and internal guidelines.
  • Portfolio Management: Managing the overall credit portfolio, including monitoring exposure levels, diversification, and concentration risk.
  • Collaboration with Sales and Relationship Management Teams: Working closely with sales and relationship managers to understand client needs and provide guidance on credit structures.
  • Credit Underwriting: Overseeing the process of evaluating and approving or declining credit applications, ensuring they meet established criteria.
  • Stress Testing and Scenario Analysis: Conducting stress tests and scenario analyses to assess the impact of adverse economic conditions on the credit portfolio.
  • Risk Monitoring: Continuously monitoring credit exposures, identifying emerging risks, and taking proactive measures to mitigate potential losses.
  • Credit Reporting and Analysis: Generating and presenting reports on credit risk metrics, trends, and performance to senior management and relevant stakeholders.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and industry best practices related to credit risk management.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Managing a team of credit analysts and professionals, providing guidance, training, and mentorship.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Collaborating with other departments, such as finance, compliance, and legal, to ensure a holistic approach to risk management.
  • Decision-Making: Making critical decisions regarding credit approvals, risk mitigation strategies, and portfolio adjustments.
  • Strategic Planning: Participating in the development of the institution’s overall risk management strategy, aligning it with broader organizational goals.
  • Relationship Management: Building and maintaining relationships with external credit agencies, regulators, and industry peers.
  • Vendor and Technology Oversight: Managing relationships with credit data providers, technology vendors, and ensuring the adequacy of underwriting tools and systems.
  • Problem Solving: Addressing credit-related issues and challenges, finding innovative solutions to complex problems.
  • Performance Evaluation: Establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of credit risk management efforts and drive continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSc / BA / HND in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, etc.
  • Members of professional bodies like; ACCA, ICAN, CIBN, ERM, etc.
  • Additional certificates will be an added advantage

Requirements:

  • 8 years of work experience in credit management, risk management, or as head of a sector/unit in credit management
  • Good understanding of microfinance lending methodology with at least 5 years in the industry.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of credit, recovery, risk policies, procedures, standards, processes, and all risk management-related tools and IT support systems.
  • Good valuation of collateral and coverage
  • Excellent understanding of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Professional, ethical, and discretion when dealing with confidential information.
