Bursar at Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU)

Joseph Ayo Babalola University is licenced by the Federal Government to operate as a Private University in Nigeria. It is located at Ikeji Arakeji, along Ilesa-Akure Road, a popular route to the eastern and northern parts of the country. The location is a serene environment particularly suited for scholarship, research and other academic and spiritual activities.
The University employs education to bring out moral regeneration, godliness, selfless leadership, positive attitude to work, mutual understanding and love among ethnic, tribal and religious groups. It is a fully residential University.

In line with its motto “For knowledge and Godly Service”, staff of the university are not only expected to be “best brain” in their specialties, they must also be Holy Spirit filled, prepared to act in loco parentis to their students and to present themselves as good role models for effective character training of students placed in their care. Job Title: Bursar

Location: Ikeji-Arakeji, Osun

Job Description

  • The Bursar is the Chief Financial Officer and Adviser of the University and he/she is responsible to the Vice Chancellor for the day-to-day administration and control of the financial affairs of the university.

Among others, he/she has the responsibility to:

  • Advise on the general financial policy of the university
  • Prepare annual estimate of income and expenditure
  • Monitor the income and expenditure in relation to budget and presenting the report to the vice chancellor
  • Keep the accounts of the university and prepare statement of financial activities and balance sheets
  • Maintain a cash slow process for the current and future years
  • Advise on financial investment of the university
  • Administer pension scheme for teaching and non-teaching staff
  • Scrutinize and pass for payment and invoices
  • Organize special appeals for capital projects and endowment funds
  • Keep analysis of cost and other statistical records
  • Advise on taxation methods

Requirements

  • Candidates must possess a good honours Degree (not below second class lower division) in Accounting or related disciplines plus membership of any of the following recognized professional accounting bodies namely: ACA, ACCA, ICAN, CPA, ACMA and ANAN.
  • The candidates should have at least fifteen (15) years post honours degree experience in a university or comparative institution, five (5) years must be as a deputy bursar in a private university
  • Possession of a higher degree in relevant fields and a good working knowledge of appropriate computer package will be an advantage.
  • Applicants must not be more than sixty (60) years of age at the time of appointment.

Terms of Appointment

  • Appointment is for a period of five (5) years only, effective from the date of appointment
  • The salary is as applicable to what currently operates in Nigerian Universities, in line with the Federal Government’s Consolidated Tertiary Institution’s Salary Structure (CONTISS) for non teaching staff.
