Analyst – Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) at IHS Towers

Job Title: Analyst – Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE)

Location: Lagos
Job Type: Full Time

Job Description

  • Designing and organizing HSE events to promote behavior-based safety and a positive culture in the region. This is within IHS and IHS contractors.
  • Prepare and execute on-site monitoring programs in the region.
  • Periodically engage regulatory/ governmental agencies (State Ministry of Environment, State Safety Commission, NESREA, NOSDRA, etc.) to ensure continual compliance.
  • Implement strategies and controls to reduce health, safety, and environmental (HSE) risks across sites in the region
  • Participate in HSE-related conferences, seminars, public hearings, etc.
  • Enhance HSE awareness by sending out monthly HSE tips to regional staff and contributing articles to Internal Communications.
  • Promote the Perfect HSE Day concept to drive the belief that zero incidents is possible.
  • Ensure the region’s HSE systems and processes comply with relevant applicable laws and requirements.
  • Advise and support the company’s regional management and staff on results from audits/ inspections, and risk assessment related to their work areas to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Assist in implementing HSE-specific targets for regional operations in line with the company’s annual HSE plan.
  • Document, implement, and supervise SSOW (RA, PTW, etc.) for potential high-risk operations in the region.
  • Participate in, and provide support for, environment-critical activities, e.g., Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), and legal compliance monitoring (e.g., noise monitoring, air quality, etc.) in the region. Advise regional management as appropriate.
  • Provide advice and support to regional management during incident investigations to establish root causes, cascade lateral learning, and make recommendations to minimize re-occurrences.
  • Maintaining a database for tracking action plans arising from incident investigations, HSE meetings, audits, clients’ and/ or customers’ inspections, and/ or complaints in the region.  etc., until close out.
  • Advise regional Operations team, SMCs, and SBCs on legislative and regulatory requirements and changes to prevent punitive measures from regulators.
  • Produce weekly performance reports on the regional HSE activities to support the overall HSE objectives and monthly regional performance reports.
  • Ensure all incidents in the region are reported on the IHS Incident reporting platform (SysAid).
  • Coordinate the distribution and recording of regular PPE and COVID-19 kits in the region and produce weekly stock updates.
  • Conduct HSE orientation for new employees in the region.
  • Implement Corporate Fleet Safety Program policies and procedures in the region.
  • Advise regional management on developments in environmental issues to ensure consistent adherence to local and international legislations, regulations, and standards.
  • Monitor HSE performance for contractors in the region and advise on ways of improving contractor performance.
  • Perform any other duties and tasks as assigned by Senior Manager, HSE.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences and/ or any other relevant discipline.
  • Membership of relevant professional bodies (ISPON, NES, IOSH, IIRSM, etc.) will be an added advantage.
  •  Valid NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) in Occupational Health & Safety. NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate (NEC) will be an added advantage.
  • Demonstrable knowledge in monitoring, policymaking, and planning.
  • Proficient in MS Office Applications and other Microsoft tools.
  • +2 years’ relevant work experience.
  • ISO HSE-MS certifications, e.g., ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 will be an added advantage
